14.4 modem...

and people complain about lag now?

In feb '96 I had a 14.4 modem and less ping (not sure about ploss, probably didn't even know what it was back then) than with my current 2 meg adsl.

I'm not sure but I have some memory that the VIE servers were in great britain somewhere.

When I got back to the game in 2000 I had more lag than four years earlier, even though the servers now where physically less than 10 kilometers from where I lived at the time.

Now, I'm in the professional world and done with college...

9 years in november

i went and found posts from my first forum nick, it's actually sort of creepy but i pretty much came off as mature (if not even moreso) as i do now. it's the asberger's syndrome - which meant having a college reading level when i was in the 6th grade

my 5th year was on the 22nd of january.. wanted to post the lyrics of david bowie's 5 years, but i forgot. anyway, i have played around 4000 hours. i will make a conservative estimate and say that i spent 1/4 of that speccing afk. so 3000 hours in 1800 days.... 1.6 hours a day. wowwee. of course, i have spent 1.6 hours playing continuum in the last month, but im glad my average is going down -_-

I doubt I would have played something else. The only reason I started playing was because my older brother wouldn't let me. And of course when you aren't allowed to do something, you want to do it more. Hence I snuck on more and more often to play this game

True, having the choice again I'd probably still play. I'd probably wait until I was a little bit older than 11 before I started though. I made a pretty big fool out of myself when I first started playing. ^-^

If I didn't play this when I was younger, I probably would have found something more productive to do.
