Trench War Events and Radio - Suggestions?

Dear the public of TW,

I'd like to open this discussion up to you. Currently on ECT, we are looking at new ideas for weekend events and regular events. Some are already in the making now, but I'd like to see if any of you have any suggestions that you'd like to say. Also, if you have any suggestions on how to make Radio better than what it is, say so! Please though, if you don't have any reasonable suggestions and just want to criticize, go somewhere else. I'd like to better TW events and radio altogether. So help me out and don't waste this thread! Thank you!

Make radio a weekly event (don't kill it by hosting it every other day), let PJ do his stuff, the email-the-requests solution is excellent (since everyone requests songs they play 24/7 at home anyway), stop playing shit music.

Burzum is right about the Radio, if you run it a lot (we were on 24/7 almost all the time way back) it will soon die. At least schedule special weekly events with good hosts. Some turretwars, base games, spider dueling, race (not the high graphics arenas) all would be good.

The request system is not what "kills the radio" it's the quality of the content beyond that. People don't tune in to hear music 90% of the time, they tune in to hear the person on the mic.

Requests are a mess as soon as there are more than 10 people listening. An absolute mess. Everyone wants to hear their name on the radio, so generally 8 out of every 10 people listening are requesting something at some point. Then, if you miss their request (which often happens) it turns into "WTF MAN PLAY MY REQUEST!". Doing it through e-mail is the only way to keep them somewhat organized.

Furthermore, people requesting music never EVER abide by the golden rule - request things that are crowd pleasers. Granted, nothing played on the radio is ever going to please 100% of the listeners, but playing ever single Swedish prog rock band or American speed-metal song that is requested generally only pleases the person requesting it and maybe 1 or 2 other people.

Whatever kind of DJing you do, the crowd will always feed off the DJ. Admittedly with radio DJing it's not as big of an issue but if you got a DJ who just sits there and goes, "coming up next is blah blah blah" and just plays it it isn't half as fun as a DJ that can keep talking "shit" between songs. Making it funny to keep the audience captivated, mic skills are essential.

In fact on that note, makes me wonder why I've never tried to become a tw dj ... too much effort xD

As for requests, email is just a sissies way of making a DJs life easier. Sure it's a good method, but a good DJ should have the sense to play as many requests as possible, in the order they came for politeness, and if it's not possible to play it, have the decency to tell the person who requested it as to stop them whining with, "WTF PLAYZ MY REQUESTZOR!" If they keep whining atfer that, they're just immature and deserve to be ignored :wub:

Whilst i host the radio server I won't allow it to be run 24/7 anyway due to bandwidth. (I dont want any overage costs)

Personally I think there should be a request show, or maybe a request hour in a DJ's show - if they want to do requests, then no requests rest of time.

Turretwars as a weekend event for sure! Would love to see 40 turrets atteched to 1 terr and then everyone would whine about the terrs skills. Would love that.

Event - how about tag? with safe? like back in the day, its a zombie mod and last alive standing wins... just needs a map with decent place to hide and one open safe zone.

Radio - i tune out when your hosts talk too much, i prefer listening to the tunes, please reference if it is AM (talk radio) or FM (music radio) in the advert so i dont waste my time <333
