I was there myself soupero, I tried to enter, and it worked.

There were even another player going into the duel at a point.

We discussed what to do as the duel went along, and we decided not to do anything related to staff powers with it, just observe. I even tried to do a *lock to see if Barton had done it, but he didn't.

Take your shit elsewhere, I was there.

Staff will never aid someone in a ban duel (like banning, locking spec, or any other moderation), and that's about all we can do about it.

Because they're not illegal. Where in the zone rules does it state they are?
They are however highly discouraged. Staff themselves have organised and participated in banduels. The agreement being that zone rules were not to be broken by the loser, and would instead remain logged out for the negotiated time. Such an agreement forged between two players cannot and will not be monitored by zone staff. I don't care what kind of zany terms you want to apply if you were to enter into such a competition, but the line is drawn against breaking existing zone rules to fulfill your end of the bargain. If you do, and staff are aware of your banduel, I'll make you wish you hadn't.
