Enhancing Competitive Play

From the 15th to the 21st of October, there will be Javelin restrictions in Pure Publics. At any time, only a third of the team can be Javelins. Anyone can be Javelin. It's first in, first serve. Standard teamkilling rules apply, and any inappropriate behaviour such as idling in a Javelin will be subject to Warnings and Bans.

This has been suggested to raise the level of play in Pure Publics and perhaps reduce the amount of team killing.

This is only a test to see what the gameplay would be like in the arenas. Limiting Javelins may have another effect on the arena, like an increase of Sharks throwing bombs! Ideally, I would prefer players teaching other players which ships are best to use in basing, and newer players learning from veterans, and that may happen if Pure Publics become more competitive, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

There will always be a 50/50 split of Pure Publics and non-Pure Publics.

When you think about it, 1/3 of a freq being javs is still pretty high of a number (especially proportionately)

on a frequency of 15 this means only 5 players will be javs instead of 7. not a huge difference in my opinion; i like the idea, but make it more strict! 1/4!

5 javs on a 15 person freq and 7 javs on a 15 person freq is actually a pretty big difference. You have to keep in mind that with 5 instead of 7 those other 2 spots are being used as a terr, spider, shark, warbird, lanc, or weasel, I'd much rather see the typical player in pub in any one of those ships instead of jav. This will definitely keep the basing action more consistent and the teams more even ship-wise at least.

So... what did you guys like/dislike about the Javelin restrictions. Did you notice any influences it had on gameplay?

I liked it. The only thing that irked me was that the same people were in jav for hours (I left and came back later). There isnt really much to do about that except place a time limit, which I doubt anyone would like. Overall I like the restrictions way more than how it is normally, simply because it motivates people to help out and play something else for once.
