As a baser i believe removing ?go base would be good for the zone

Yes there would be backlash but the response would be new and exciting. Chats would form for all basers, games would go back to being played in private arenas with invites only. Teams of more than 8 could play and basing could flow over hours instead of wasting half an hour picking teams. Public basing would increase as soon as squads realiased they were fighting over each other for public control.

No I don't see this happening as too many staff these days are basers, would I like to see it happen, yes.
This is exactly what I was talking about in my previous post. You're right, before ?go base things were organized like that, but there is absolutely no guarantee that this will happen once ?go base is removed. I'm with you, I wish it would, I wish people would start to care more about it. But I can't help to consider it simply wishful thinking. Something needs to happen, but not this.

Personally, I'm not very happy with how ?go base is like now. But it is still played quite regularly, at least more than ten times a day - that simply does not warrant a shutdown. What I really dislike about the ?go basing scene and the vast majority of the basers is that they simply don't care about winning. Back when it was new, you were considered an asshole if you quit in the middle of the game, no matter for what reason. Your name was remembered and people made sure you weren't picked for the next couple hours. These days, we care so little about ?go base games that we'd leave in the middle of the game for pretty much anything: you don't like your team, or you have a TWD game, or you want to play elim.

as phreddy said, you cant compare javduel and wbduel with base, wbs got ,elim, wbduel, and pub javs got baseelim, javs, javduel(many events getting hosted) we,basers got go base and pub(very low skill level) i understand that you want to remove go base and make pub active..i cant speak for any others but for myself, and i wouldn't start playing pub for that.I ONLY play pub when im bored, And then i shark, And cant say you get much better when your sharking vs 5 wbs 10 javs .

    as said,my oppinion only.

you're right. maybe it's as simple as changing the pub maps (like other video games have different maps for the same deal a la unreal tournament and fps games like that), or maybe even a simple commitment of competitive squads returning to public zone to encourage newer players. i don't think they will make that commitment with the way things currently are. maybe change the map to something different each week- i think there are enough base maps in the database that could be used, no? or maybe once a month. maybe their could be a map-mapking committee or something and they could make maps all day and never speak to anyone about their map-making and keep it super-top secret and it could get real competitive in the committee, perhaps they would hack into one another's computers and steal each other's maps because on the screen where it says the top 3 squads for points in the last scorereset, it also shows the map-maker's name in small text at the bottom right. right? then, and only then, may the players flock to pubs once again to bash it out with squadmacros and safe-e-drinking-party-chats.

It's great that many people care enough about this zone to think up solutions to fight the population decline. But ever since the distension debate, the following has been bugging me:

STOP TRYING TO CONTROL THE PLAYERS

    Seriously.

You simply can not force the history back unto the present. Sure, I'm nostalgic about pre ?go base pub basing too: pub remains my favorite pastime. You can't just take something away and assume that things will turn out to be exactly as it was 6 years ago.
This deletionist mindset is what I feel is most detrimental, you attract players by providing them with what they want, not by forcing them to do whatever you want them to do.
Population boosts have always been correlated with additions to the zone, not deletions.

Having said that, I do agree with that there is a huge disconnect between players in pub and everybody else. I think a good way to boost the population is, indeed, to find a way to fix that gap. But you can't fix things by telling players what to play.

How about you make public more appealing and leave ?go base alone.

And Kim, it's hard to compare dueling to basing. Duelers have (base)elim and jav/wbduel. Basers have just base. And no, pub doesnt work for base like elims work for jav/wbduel.

you can pull solution out of your behind as much as you want but this game will die as long as pubs stays the way they are. Fix the problem and leave ?go base alone.

shiplimits ruin this game, not ?go base
newbie TKs piss pros out of pub and not WoW
the new "balanced" aka BORING shippsettings makes people go outside and not the nice weather.

it is pathetic how staff denies the sinking of their ship, while standing knee deep in water. i call it again from far beyond the caring point, IF current solutions would work so well, why is everyone compaining? Must be evil Magic.

the way to get newbies interested in the game at first is to have public zones be exciting with new and old players alike.
O.k now its cleared. But was it not like that before Mootland Farmer turn pub 0 back again to old pub without bots?
I remember playing there a lot in that base game with many others of old players. Some of the rounds were really exciting and massive, and people actually tried to team-play instead of solo warbird or levterr in an empty base.

    correct me if I'm wrong.

Go base used to have a lot of people there, meaning that people wanted to play it.
for new players maybe it was harder to get into, but for older players it was a place to enjoy the game. The base in public is useless. Pub is all about killing. You said yourself Kim that you walked around with Levterr team and people tried to kill you.
Make a new map with many bases instead of 1 flag base that just 2 warbirds and a weasel fighting around it while all the others shooting each other below.

Mootland Farmer made basing in public possible, I had actually sometimes more fun playing in pub than in ?go base. people started to use more spiders and shark and less Javs and warbirds killing each other in non purpose game.

This game has the talent to move forward.
Sorry but thats not actually true. While his post is very convincing, you could watch other games that are more popular than Subspace that actually people preferred playing them in the old version and not in the new, advanced one.

Be smart, think how you want to attract new people to the game. Its all about Advertising and improving the way people get into the game at first glance making them NOT to say "O.K i saw and it was cool but not really interesting".
i guess i came off a little stand-offish because really, in all honesty, i have memories of what pub used to be like that you simply cannot fathom. that is the case.

now, did you really read my post or were you responding entirely to the suggestion of taking down ?go base? maybe my english was a little off:

the way to get newbies interested in the game at first is to have public zones be exciting with new and old players alike. i suggested one idea that might accomplish this. never did i say that i was completely correct and that you must believe what i say. the goal is to create a discussion. i aplogize for personally attacking you, i was just a little distraught.
