    Moot had a good idea to state the focus for TW and also TW pub. In that thread people started to give suggestions, but the thread was suppose to be only about what the focus on TW should be. So I think we need sticky threads showing people's suggestions for the different area's of TW. Instead of having all these random threads like I am starting, they can be centralized. A TWL, TWD, PUB, other ?go arenas. So if you do that you can move this to the PUB sticky.


    I sent an E-mail to moot and Dim, but they have not yet responded so I thought I'd post my ideas on the forum. Here's what I wrote:

    Since one of our main focuses is basing, and improving basing in pubs while not ignoring our sub-events, there are a few things I would like to address that take away from quality play in pubs. (There may be more, but I want to talk about these few)

    The main problem is;

    A. In pub there is no focus.

    Is it basing? Is it dueling in spawn? Is it LTing? The default TW pub map looks like a combo Wb arena with a base map attached to the top. Since there is no focus it breaks down into 35 man squamish with everyone running around doing whatever they want, and no one thing being done with much success. If we bring focus to pub it will boost quality to both basing and the sub-events like Wb dueling and Javing.

    I see three problems which spawn from not having a focused pub map;



    1. Too many people stay in the spawn area. (In all ships)

    2. Too many Wbs just trying to duel, and not base.

    3. Too many Javs




    The size of the arena takes away from basing in pubs. The actual base is about 1/10th (or less) of the total map area inside the rock walls. A lot of people don’t base but rather just fly around doing one of the following; laming random people in spawn area, dueling around the safes and “the bar”, or trying to control the roof in a pseudo king of the hill game.



    Solutions:

    1. Shrink the spawn area, and/or make spawn a huge safe zone. This will move people out of the spawn area and up into the base. One of the most annoying things if you are trying to base in pub is the inability to have a competitive basing game because too many players in the arena are flying around in spawn or doing other things.

    I've seen some zones where the safe zone is hidden in spawn area and is every other tile. One can see the safe zone if you pull up the bigger map version by using alt + ctrl, or whatever the key combo.

    2. Create dueling style pubs. We don’t want to neglect our dueling friends. We can create a win-win by both shrinking the spawn area AND creating dueling pubs. Overall we will make pubs better. There are automated dueling arenas, but not a dueling pub. Why not throw up at least two new pub maps, one like a twjd for javs, and another like twdd for wbs? In there you can have ~35 wbs, or ~20 javs duking it out. These pubs can give the wbs and javs a place to practice in a pub environment. And if they want to see how their wb or jav skills do in basing, they can switch arenas.

    One argument against this might be with these different sub-pub arenas it will fracture the TW community into different sub-sects. Well, it pretty much already is that way, with all the in-fighting present in pubs and when people talk about what pubs should be. The main focus of TW should be basing, therefore most of the pubs should reflect a basing style. And we should also have some pubs reflect our dueling style. For tradition, we could keep 1-2 pubs in the classic form.

    If we keep them all tied together in one pub format each style is watered down and all sides are frustrated. By breaking up the different styles into different pubs, we can remain unified in our love of TW as a whole, with separate specific interests.
