Animated Banners for those who donate

What do you think?

How sweet would that be, I'd donate and I'm sure a lot of other people would too.

I know people would think of it as a distraction, so let's add a feature to not view animated banners if you dont want to.

However when normal players couldn't see the relative pings of other players, e.g. Microstar(4)[240].. that would have made a nice donation incentive. Nothing like having non-staff exclusive access to other people's lag.

You do know that the ping we see to other player's is C2C, so there's still incentive, donators could gain the ability to see S2C instead...and even his own weapons ?lag.

Why do people seem to think an animated banner is going to eat up all that much more bandwidth? You do realize that once the pic is downloaded, that's it. It doesn't take any more bandwidth to display the animation, just CPU cyles on the client's computer. The only additional bandwidth needs would result from the slightly larger filesize of a 12x8 animated gif versus a 12x8 bmp, but even that is of nominal importance as far as bandwidth is concerned.

No, thats a bad idea. Imagine a basing match where 3-4 people are in the flagroom. It would be too distracting. That thing where donaters get to see others lag is bad too.

Energy or portal viewing???

Animated banners defeats definitely the point of donations. I dont think removing the ability to see players' pings will make much difference, it is fairly easy to tell how much someone is lagging.

I think it would be more interesting to get something like energy viewing (which everyone will hate) or portal view (which terrs will hate) for a period of time for money.

LOL I like the idea of the veiwable portals, that would be annoying for many terrs, and I think that animated banner WOULD be a major distraction. Sure, they are pretty cool and all, but all those animated banners means more lag for non bandwith players (I am a bandwith) and a major distraction for other players. Im not trying to be redundant by saying what you guys have already said, but I say no to animated banners.
