ASSS Zones

There are a huge number of advantages, far beyond those listed, as far as what can be done with a server you can modify. But I'm doubtful TW will migrate. Re: this, though:
This could be done pretty easily in TW already (though not as a ? command -- something in pubchat, though). It's just the case that various high-powered individuals have not wanted wbduel/javduel/base automated for players to start ... have not wanted this for many years and are fairly adamant about the decision. Could even vote on captains, that sort of thing. Any one of the bot dev team could code it tonight and have it in tomorrow -- it's just a policy thing. Of course, it would be nicer to have it all integrated into commands, the text of which would not display to other players, a feature only ASSS could provide unless one resorts to the rather roundabout method of PMs.

The main cause of crashes is that we are constantly adding new things and pushing the limits of the protocol, something I doubt Trench Wars would partake in as an ASSS zone.
Approaching a flag victory is when there is the most activity in the zone, so its more likely that somebody will do something to cause problems.
I remember a crash recently that was a result of somebody placing a field and dying, and then getting disconnected in the middle of respawning. This has obviously been fixed now, but just serves as an example of how it usually takes very uncommon circumstances like that for the zone to crash.

in fact, it seems the flag victory is the main cause of crashes...

Hyperspace does get a large population during great flagging games, but once it reaches around 90-100 people, it does tend to crash a lot. It's happened quite frequently, especially when a freq is going to win and most people in the zone are playing.

hyperspace averages pops of 80-90 at the weekend and seems to be stable. ASSS has come a long way. Remember there are NO bots in hyperspace, so that's all players.
I still think the most compelling arguments for not switching (bots/prittk/unproven with larger populations) have already been mentioned.
I'm coding an extensive project with ASSS at the moment. I suggest all new zones use ASSS, but unless there is a overly compelling reason to switch, theres no point in doing so. The biggest pain is that alot of bots don't work properly with ASSS, a alot of the commands have been changed. (as far as i know)

Ofcourse ASSS can do more then subgame. I've heard much about ASSS and it can mean much for Trench Wars in means of features and addons.
However, at this point we are hosted at the server of one of TW's owners; Priit K. We may be very thankful for that as he has hosted TW for so long already.
Changing this hosting would be foolish as it would require us to change servers and paying for it ourselves.
It's also forgotten that all bots that are running in TW needs to be migrated from TWCore to ASSS modules as TWCore doesn't run on ASSS well (I believe).
Even if ASSS can do so much and mean another step in the future, I don't see it happening anytime soon.

Couldn't you simulate the load of a couple hundred people with the software? Running subgame and an ASSS test server in parallel would not be the ideal situation.
As for racism rules they would remain. If people can find a way around the current obscene filter they can do it on this also.
We also have a few none staff members who have access to the Base/Wbduel bots so they can start games. And Eventbot can be used to send in requests for Base/Wbduel games to be started.

lolol... stop being racist and you'll stop getting banned
I mean, I have ?obscene on auto so it turns it off automatically when I enter trenchwars... but, I don't problem with shit cock fuck balls bitch ass cunt fag... but racism in and of itself is beyond an obscenity

Guest repliedHow is anyone gonna prove that its ready for a larger population, if TW has the only large population, but we won't test it because its not proven to work yet.Originally posted by RiiStar View PostIsn't the main reason for it not changing in regards to TW's server
that its still not proven to handle a larger population yet?

People have been sceptical for too long, unless you've tried it, there's no way to actually know if ASSS would lag more than subgame would. All the current zones that use ASSS are fairing pretty well. At the time, it was unknown if ASSS could handle any large population at all because there were no zones that reached ~20+; but things have changed since, with notable zones such as Hockey Zone, HyperSpace, and Powerball.
And being afraid of an overload of commands is ridiculous, there aren't that many more commands available to the standard player, and you can modify the settings to restrict commands to people. Not to mention message/commands flood-control. It would be no less of a difference than having bots (which technically hack subgame in order to perform the many tasks they do).
TWCore can only push the limits of subgame so much, which is a pretty huge disadvantage if any one wants to push the game forwards. People wouldn't just have to contribute maps, but they could contribute unique code and gameplay specifics for their arena.

Yeah, with a couple hundred people or more on, doing a lot of these commands can cause a big lag issue with the server.
