  • Possibly a hack?

I know this may sound like some conspiracy theory or something, but I believe there's a cheat out there that influences others lags and/or frames.

I'm only saying this because it never happens during any other time other than playing in TWD matches. It feels as if others speed up while your ship slows down. I've noticed my ship moving along smoothly during a match then all of a sudden this sort of spike or jerk happens and everything seems to be moving at a slower pace.

Maybe it's just my imagination, but I've been playing this game for awhile now and I'm capable of telling if somethings off about how my ship is suppose to move.

Also, it seems to only happen when I play against certain squads/people. I'm not going to name any names and frankly I don't know if I could. Like I said, I may just be imagining it and it's nothing more than me kidding myself. I do wonder though if anyone else feels this way sometimes during matches? Like your ship is a brick in space. You have to constantly hit the control key to shot, your ships thrust seems slowed down, backing up takes forever, turn rate seems to have slowed down, overall speed is down.

    Just wondering is all. -_-

EDIT: And no it's not spyware or viruses. My systems clean and running properly. It's also not my DSL connection nor is it anything d/ling in the background. I don't run anything other than winamp and possibly a web browser when I'm on the game.

The movements of your ship are all controlled by your own client and computer. It would be quite impossible for others to influence this via the game.
Running winamp for sure isn't beneficial for my computer, so you might want to stop that and see if it works better that way. Also, try removing the downloaded level files in your TW subfolder, I had some currected graphic files once (in distension) that made the game extremely computer laggy.

Edit: be aware of refreshing browser pages in the background

turning rate always appears slower than your enemies' i've decided. Other than that maybe spyware's affecting your connection, and you only really noticed it in twd because it doesn't matter elsewhere. dunno

EDIT: just saw your edit, maybe it's windows automatic updates, or another program automatically updating/searching for updates.

Windows would only update at a certain time when he plays TWD and vs special squads? o,O

Sure there maybe be a hack that could slow your connection or some sort but i don't know how that would slow your ship down.. And they would probably not be able to do it through the game?? :fear:

Well, it may be more a hack that just affects them in a certain way, but has adverse effects on me. Like a speed hack, it speeds them up but in turn it slows me down? I don't know, just food for thought.

Winamp will make your screen spike everytime a song changes and if you're running firefox with a few tabs, that will definatly give you screenlag after 5-10 minutes of playtime
help: (how do i shot) (Public 0): how do i travel diagonally? i only have up, down, left and right keys.

to speed up your shift press the 'Shift' button while flying. This will engage your thrusters! but be weary oh one of the speed! your energy will deplete the longer you hold the thrusters down!

Definitely a hack. Without a doubt! Next time use ?report. I know a lot of people who use it, and I won't name names, but Ease uses this hack almost exclusively in TWLD matches.

Hmm, I haven't heard of that, but I'll look into it. If this is true, it's pretty big, reps on warbirds is a travesty to the integrity of our community.

Yes, because it's completely ridiculous to believe that someone could be hacking a nine year old game that gets updated only ever 3 years. I also understand how improbable of a situation that I'm stating, but it's not impossible. If someone were to use some sort of hack or speed boost that alters their lag and/or frames, that could possibly tweak others performance. There have been cases on other games of this occurring, so it's not like it's unheard of.

It's not winamp because I only play one song at a time, it's not Firefox because I don't even have it opened at all times. It's not Ad-ware, viruses, or whatever. It's not windows update, I have that turned off, including all third party software updater's. I understand the concept of computers just as much as the next nerd on this game.

And for the love of God, can there not be a douchebag to come into every thread?

I haven't tried the level files thing, I'll give it a whirl and see if that helps. Thanks though.

actually there are programs you can google that you can control spikes, but i wont tell u the name because it would get me banned

but anyway i suspect certain players in the game use it, you can hotkey spikes so that... lets say they get stuck in a corner... all of a sudden they spike their way out of it...

i dont use it but im sure people do, although staff know about it

but lag is the hardest thing to catch someone cheating with, so im sure these players will keep doing it for a while, eventually probably get caught if staff actually tried to look for it

But he's not talking about controlling spikes on the cheater's side... he's talking about cheaters possibly decreasing his thrust, speed, and rotation, i believe. That, I think, would be significantly harder to do as it would have to go through the server from the cheater's computer to the victim's(for lack of a better word?) client, and then alter their client (as sing said). I could be wrong, but if all of that did happen, I'm pretty sure the server would throw some warnings. I mean, if you could remotely hack another continuum client, then what's to stop them from giving you super or shield or something of that nature?
