well there's walls all around it, isn't there :P

I agree it would be fun, but it is a different game. (lots of) Walls means that there will be far fewer strays from fighting across the map, as well as fewer chances to snipe with the radar. At the same time, having obstacles makes it harder to rush people, who have more objects to hide behind/bounce off/lead to. I think it might increase the number of mid-range skirmishes, at the expense of hardcore rushing/chasing and radar sniping.

Or it's just easier to get trapped somewhere, I guess it could go both ways.

I think some small obstacles would be good, like small randam bars or large blocks. Nothing like a maze, or even close to the belim map, because those are different games. It should still be fairly easy to boost across the map without running into things, though not if you're being hounded.

But in the end, I think you're just going to see a lot of loud-mouth elimers complaining. But hey, I'm getting jaded.

do you know why the bar was removed from the elim arena in the first place?

people used it to dance around in circles and be lame and not fight.

edit: allow that to happen again and you just created a really stupid arena. say all you want about "new strategies" and crap... its still a stupid arena. it doesnt take anything resembling "skill" to dance circles around a block big enough to not allow people to kill you. this is a recipe for nothing except frustration.

i see how that's annoying, it's what people do in pubs -- hide around the bottom safe. It may not be easy, but you can design obstacles that are big enough to hide behind for a shot or two, but not so big that you are invulnerable. It depends on the shape. A long bar allows people to dance only at the ends of the bar, in the middle of it there isn't a lot of room to dance. If it were a large circle, then it would take too much time/energy to constantly fly around it hiding, but it would provide some shelter when running.

But then again, as I've been reminded upteen million times, the only goal of Trench Wars is to get people into the leagues. That being said, there are no bars/large obstacles in TWL, so with that logic there shouldn't be any in the elim arena.

However I think it's much more important (and easier) to fix the warbird race atm. Voting "10" gives you a "UFO elim" instead of a warbird race. Some people have said voting 11 works, but AFAIK it just gives you warbird elim.

Edit: also if someone refuses to fight in elim, report their ass. You're not allows to run around hiding all the time, it's in the rules.

if you werent there to see the original bar in the elim... it was painful. really painful to watch someone stall, run, and be a straight up dickhead

it was basically one bar across. you could shoot to the other end, but by the time your bullet got there the person had easily dodged it.

and yes, you can always report people, and then... after reporting and waiting the 3 or 4 minutes for the mod to get there while the person continues this excrutiating dance, they get warned to fight.

this leads to even more entertainment because by this point in the elim it was usually the bar hider and the legit person who was good left. youd see fun records like 19-5 vs 4-3.

the next phase was to watch the 4-3 bar-hiding jerkoff run around the arena for yet another 20 minutes firing potshots behind them to say that they were "fighting"

If you make the bar out of energy gates, it can be turned on or off by a mod or bot. Or the bot could count the number of living players and warp them to a copy of the map (within the same arena) that has some of the obstacles removed. There are workarounds.

I am in favor of mixing things up, and in favor of forcibly preventing cheap play when it is contrary to the spirit of the game. I think there are ways to do both and keep everyone happy.

BTW Zeebu, if you really are Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Dr. J made you look baaaaaad with the baseline move.
