Oh, and about the Basing Marathon, I invented that a few years ago. It was incredibly successful and fun as all hell. I think I ended up hosting something like ten maps in a row on Saturday, with another ten following that on Sunday. If you're going to do it though, try to limit the teams to fifteen players or so. It just gets too damn laggy if you try much more than that. Also, try to watch out for the same people getting in the game over and over. I tried to give everyone a chance by putting in different captains for every game and ensuring that those captains varied their picks.
?go nostalgo
?go asteroids (can't remember the name.. but the old-asteroids-game style one)
About the basing marathon:
It's a fine thing to do, but the end result isn't particularly special. It's just base games after another. Take advantage of the marathon theme, to make each single game even more fun, like it's part of a bigger picture. An example would be an award for the player with best aggregate w-l over all games, but that wouldn't work for obvious reasons. But that's just an example to show you what I mean, hopefully you could think of something to really spice it up.
I'm sure lots of people will enjoy the fact that someone is hosting lots of base that day, maybe that is enough motivation.
Jason: Hosted basing? Are you implying private basing, or the basing that every Event Referee is supposed to host? And I didn't know I was stealing someone's thunder. Not to mention adman doesnt really have a "go" to give unless he returns to staff.
As for the marathon stuff, I wasnt aware you had done it before, but yea that sounds like a good plan.
Nockm: I was trying to think of something like that myself. It is just difficult to add something like that with so many different bases/people. I may think of something but none the less, it should still be fun.
I am surprised at the positive outlook you guys are giving me about it. I asked about it on one of my chats and got shot down. Anyway, it should be pretty fun.
Bluewire: it takes advantage of the biggest problem in pubbasing. Everyone wants to be a jav, so let them. Its good.
I like firebase, because it's very open. 2flag can be good for large numbers. Fatbase doesn't suck, but I don't especially like it for some unknown reason. Altbase is okay, but the ent is kinda tough... Point base is good, but with too many people it blows. Besides most hosts are too retarded to run it right (or that has been my expereince in the past)
In general, most base maps flat out suck. They take to long to enter(e.g. outpost), are too small or too open. Some of them have shitty entrances that a single shark or a couple javs completely dominate. Some are too reliant on their NEAT TRICKS like blizzard's wormholes.
And while I salute your attempt to bring pubbasing back, I doubt much will come of it. Base hostings tend to draw two types of crowds. Teams of 30 each where no one can see anything due to lag, and teams of 10 that gradually slip down to 5 then 3.... Oh well, we shall see. Good luck and stuff. (Maybe talk to Dark! he used to get awesome crowds for his host marathons)

Boki-If I had my way this'd be the pub replacement.
Bluewire-Balanced and fun.
Fatbase- Only if you're hosting 40+ and have already done the other two.
2flag- see fatbase.
ok thanx Jason, I understand now. I had no idea he wanted to do that. If he does in fact try to, I will surely help him if he wants.
Thanx btw, I hope this all works out.
