was the method for calculating what to display for ping next to your name changed within the past few years?
When I first played I remember seeing my ping next to my name, and other's by their names. Now it seems to be a combonation of both players' pings next to others' names and a 0 by your name..fffffffff_____

oh, and I like the idea of having an energy view from spec, as well as a !lag command. been seeing some players shoot on an invisible FC green.

The topic has died despite almost 100% approval. I would like some mod or op to have a say on this and take an action so as to launch testing. There is energy view enabled in ?go 2v2 i think, and that is what I am talking about.
Can we please read an opinion from an authority on the topic?

I support this as well. This is the kind of change that makes it easier for new players to learn and we need to do all of those to help a new generation of competitive TWD players. The !lag feature would also be good.Da1andonly> man this youghurt only made me angry

For the moment, I see no flaws of that change.
discuss.
Besides, lag would prevent you from ever knowing at what time someone has how much actual energy, since just the refresh rate on energy from spec view is about 1 second, and it only takes like 2 seconds to fill energy up to max, so you'd never see anything you could possibly 'learn' from
As for CE, the bots auto detect users that come in with hacked programs and bans them; another pointless point
Just play the game and learn it for yourself, or join the ranks of countless players in the zone who are nothing more than trash trying to memorize how others play, and it's not hard to see how badly that turns out.Awesome> i'm 20.. and definately bigger than you... where do you live, if i ever take a vacation there i'll come beat you up 7:Ripper> hahah

You missed the word 'may' in my statement, indicating some may find it useful to start off basins such as adapting others' moves that work. It improves the learning process - 1st pointless trash talk attempt.
You do not need to talk about unique styles for you are not very good yourself now (perhaps you were few years ago, I don't care), I played vs. you and all you do is run and you even lack imagination about it.
I think you were new once too, and when there were players around you that were more into the game, I am sure you wanted to do more or less what they did. Energy management is often the key to understand the maneuvers in this zone, most common one is being the practice on rushing distance.. But since your profession is bounded with backarrow lobbing, you do not see the point.
Oh, and your style is not unique, it is in fact not very good, so you are referring to yourself when talking about 'ranks of countless players'.

Lol, looks like I hit a nerve, and pretty hard at that. First off, I have no clue who you are, which should point you in the direction of not having to take everything so personally. Also, the fact that I don't know you is a pretty good tip-off that you have no clue about me or my playing capacity (which your retort underlines rather well either way) other than perhaps some scraps of elim or wbduel play you may have seen my name in, granted I haven't really played for a while now.
You missed the word 'may' in my statement, indicating some may find it useful to start off basins such as adapting others' moves that work. It improves the learning process
There doesn't have to be a may. All you have to do is play the ship, and through consistent practice get a feel for how to manage your ship best without dying, and how to aim your shots or fly around and have enough energy when you are ready to shoot. Just because your overly defensive and emotionally distraught reply implies that I hit a soft spot of your probable incapacity to get good at this game through this natural method doesn't mean all is lost for everyone else.
You do not need to talk about unique styles for you are not very good yourself now. I played vs. you and all you do is run and you even lack imagination about it.
I find this point funny since it's been rather well known that I harbor some of the most unique styles in the zone because of the uncommon fact that I have not once ever studied another player play in this zone. Players like Mythril have spent months trying to learn my rush, Fieryfire has many a time asked me to teach him my unique backwards thrust shot, while others like Hercules still can't figure out how I can conserve energy in evasive and/or outnumbered running scenarios so well that when it seems I have no energy I actually have full.
But what really makes this point funny is that from the way you talk and how quick you are to try and bring this to a personal level, it's not hard to discern that you might be either a pubber wishing he was more or a twd-er who most likely hasn't seen past a low to mid-tier squad with possibly little hope for improvement beyond that. Considering that, it's rather funny how you try to establish judgment of me, but I will not back down with putting any doubts or delusions you have concerning my skill to rest with a 1 v 1 in-game. I may not play anymore but I'll always be willing to get on and back myself up, because it's impossible to rust in this game, contrary to popular belief. People are just bad in those cases.
In fact, contrary to what you claim about my 'understandings' of styles, I wrote some 'two cents' on what I found behind the concepts of a warbird, and competitive warbird play, which went on to be a huge guide a ton of people tried to base their play off of and people begging me to tutor them, despite the fact that I do not promote either and just wanted people to learn for themselves but take my findings as inspiration to do so. I know this is all well before you time, but why don't you read this guide under 'Sirius' on this page, I'm sure there's much for you to learn there, not just from my posts, but other good players give some interesting ideas as well throughout the pages; many people have that thread bookmarked =P
http://forums.trenchwars.org/showthr...t=11048&page=2
Your ignorance is further underlined by your claim that 'I am or my style is no good because I am a runner', when I am most renown for being one of the biggest rushers in the zone, and if you ever told someone I am how you put, a 'backarrow lobber' as my forte, they would laugh you out of the room =P
I think you were new once too, and when there were players around you that were more into the game, I am sure you wanted to do more or less what they did.
This statement you just made, is probably the biggest reason you, and the majority of players (like I said in my original post), will never amount to much of anything in this game. Because your average player, like you, starts their journey in the wrong direction. When you started you thought of how you could play this game better, or be like someone you may have looked up to, and with that your attention at actually understanding the game and working THE game went awry. I just played for the fun of how the ships flew and the shot mechanics, for years before considering playing competitively (played TW first in 98), and after long-term practice I simply became accustomed to it. I indirectly learned what made sense , what worked, what didn't, and never cared to become good or like someone else. This let all my attention simply rest with knowing the game, not the feeling of wanting to be better.
Energy management is often the key to understand the maneuvers in this zone, most common one is being the practice on rushing distance.. But since your profession is bounded with backarrow lobbing, you do not see the point.
I also am known for being one of the best energy gaugers, to the point where many people think I use CE, even some of my buddies can't help but say that I use it. But guess what? I don't even know what I DO do with my energy, if you were to ask me, because I never watched or tried to learn anything, I just played until I was capable of performing to a certain threshold concerning those aspects.
But, to retort to your statement I'll just quote Wisecherub off page one of the link I gave you -
Lets take two, sort of well know duelers. From what I have observed these two players use the extremes of these 2 styles.
Sirius - emphasized and depended primarily on his rushing skills
Killermech - emphasized on his sniper skills.
Each of these players at opposite ends of the dueling style spectrum.
I don't think more needs to be said on that =P
Oh, and your style is not unique, it is in fact not very good, so you are referring to yourself when talking about 'ranks of countless players'.
Please do not reply to this post again. Thank you in advance.
Repeating yourself over and over to try and make an empty point isn't going to get anything across other than you are just talking out of your ass.
Honestly though, you went in well over your head, and then topped it off with false bravado. Moral of the thread, don't implement moronic variable-monitoring elements such as energy view from spec etc; all it will do is egg newer players into trying more to mimic 'better' players without taking time to understand the game for themselves, in the end teaching them nothing, just making a bunch of bad wannabees who don't understand the game and thus continue to suck. There's already plenty of that that's gone around over the years, and continues to go around.Awesome> i'm 20.. and definately bigger than you... where do you live, if i ever take a vacation there i'll come beat you up 7:Ripper> hahah

Lol, it just dawned on me as to why you are probably so confused about my playing styles. You must have caught me playing in elim one of these last couple weeks whenever I may have been on, as I indeed have been using an extremely opposite style in there most recently, but as of two weeks ago I currently hold the best current consecutive win streak in the zone in elim now due to it =P

I broke your twenty-something elim streak month ago by dueling vs. you for like 30 minutes. Score was 4-2 me. Your style was backarrowing and shooting low velocity shots. It was easy to play against because I only needed patience to beat it. You did not even bother responding to me after elim whem I said I had enjoyed the duel, so I strongly dislike you for your arrogant ego ever since. I ctiriqued directly this style, not backarrowing in general.
My style is strongly influenced by the way i position, aim and push in pro league. So I do not copy any of the players in-zone. I am just an observer. I investigate people's playing styles to find a solution against them and successfully counteract them. Speccing energy is one of the aspects i wanted to give my thougts to, especially when observing laggy, vys-class rushers while they also catch invisible full charge greens.
I do not want to pick fights vs. you for this wouldn't be going anywhere. You are considered much better and veteran-like than I would ever become, and it's not my goal to beat that reputation. I only seek for the enjoyment of the game, while I can play little and give 100% focus in pracs I am involved into so I can improve the learning curve. I am too old to pick fights with people. I am sorry that you thought I only wanted to engage you, I just became defensive since I felt personally attacked. You can think I am a nobody, and you are right - I am nobody. You win.
You also win the English vocabulary contest, for I am Polish (you are Russian but you speak fluently), so you are 2-0 in overall standings.

My goal is not to win the internets here, I have been simply observing your standpoint and giving you my feedback on what I have seen out of it.
Well, it makes a little more sense now as to why you felt so negative, as apparently I put you into a begrudging situation from the apparent consequences of some elim we may have been engaged in a month ago. Though I do not recall ever purposefully ignoring you, it is quite possible I went afk to get some food or drink as if the streak was in the 20s, then obviously I had been playing non-stop for hours until that game.
In fact I somewhat remember a long duel like that, and if its what I am thinking of, I had an advantage of killing you more but had originally more deaths than you. But there was some lucky shot that hit me as I was trying to find you which gave you the upper hand for my final death, though I don't see how either of us had an advantage over the other granted it was just evasive shooting and dodging all endgame there. My patience doesn't end as I don't play much if at all anymore, and so it's a matter of simple human error that judges who wins in a match like that.
Speccing energy is one of the aspects i wanted to give my thougts to, especially when observing laggy, vys-class rushers while they also catch invisible full charge greens.
And I tell you again it won't help; there is no way with the refresh rate of energy viewing and the lag of those laggy players will you be able to extract any useful type of information out of enabling such a feature. It may promote more laziness from the average joe by giving them more options of trying to memorize things they don't understand (using energy values to base their actions upon what they see off a different player), but that's about it.
If some john doe watched me fly around and how my energy works, and would actually derive a consistent formula of what I do exactly when my energy is whatever, he would know more than ME about how I play 'technically' because I don't even have a clue or pay attention to those things or energy, but HE doesn't have a clue as to what goes through my head about the field or the opponent or scenario I am in as to why I use my energy that way in those scenarios, so the information will be void in the end.
I want to encourage people to learn this game for themselves, for when I tried or wanted to be good in some other games, like Warcraft III, even though I dominated in Starcraft..I couldn't do it because I WANTED to be good in Warcraft III, it was a priority, instead of understanding how the game works. And even though I knew & befriended legendary players straight out of the beta whose replays of theirs plastered all over all the key sites, showing me what to do, how to play, and 'teaching' me, I couldn't do squat with it even if I emulated them because I couldn't really grasp over the mechanics of the game.
Same here. I think the concept of 'you will only obtain that which you do not seek' can be used prevalently in cases of games like this, I just enjoyed sticking around the game long enough to be able to overcome practically any scenario with a huge roster of understood tactics and mindsets that came to me on their own through perseverance. And every time I see people come to me with hopes for guidance or training or people talking about their goals of becoming the best or good and the studies they undertaking speccing people etc, I know that the flame of hope of a dominating future for them in this game has already been snuffed out.
I still recommend you read through this thread, there is a great deal of fun and interesting information on it; I enjoyed reading through it again yesterday.

BTW...I have heard in the past that it is amusing apparently, to watch my energy in-game, (plob#f in this case) though I have no clue really as to what I do in those circumstances, other than whatever I've learned keeps me alive and kills others, over the years of playing :
