Really, if a "newb" wants to get better probably the best thing to do is to find the best player you can find and just spec him for a while. Man, when I was a newb (er... moreso than I am now) I went to elim and watched this guy win like 3 in a row. There's no telling how much help watching someone who knows how to play and seeing what he does to get all his kills. If people who just start have the patience to just sit and watch for a little while they will learn a lot more than they could if it was ever explained to them in writing. (This applies for all aspects of the game btw, not just basing.)
Oh yeah. Didn't bother to read if anyone pointed this out earlier...

No.
Shark can green xradar which dectects cloaked weasels at the cost of energy drain, which no sane shark would use unless he knew of one nearby and there is no friendly terrier around. Though it would be nice to be able to cloak in em.

Special thanks to Zerzera for giving me a low down on some of the other ships.
I'm sorry for putting incorrect info on some of the other ships. When I first started I wrote down ship abilities from reading the Zone Description webpage, which is linked to the SS Help site?? Or course in other zones; settings are different and when I first looked at this game, I was little confused.
Ohya, I also learnt that Javs have Xradar, but drains alot.
Where in the TrenchWar Faq do they give a straight forward list on each ships ability pertaining to Trench Wars??? All I see is Ship devices definitions...
Instead of me, a recent player trying to figure out each ship ability, I wish there was a Ship Chart in the faq listing what ship devices they can use. Okay some ships are straight forward like Warbird or Lancaster. But I was fuzzy about Shark, Terrier, Weasel, Jav and Levy.
Okay why didn't I ask someone in the game, cause I didn't want to bother anyone. Why didn't I experiment? I didn't want to screw my scores up. Also I was too lazy to figure them out and figure over time I will learn them.
Today, I experimented with the other ships and I'm impressed with them all.
I'm going to check that Zone Description webpage, and see if they put inaccurate ship info, or see where I messed up.
I read about this section at (subspaceguide.cjb.net/) TW Zone Strategy, they have it burried within the text. Within the Jav section they don't mention they have high drain XRADAR, but in the Terrier section they do. For myself, a straight forward checklist would be easy to read and take less time.
You see when I first started playing the game, I made a stupid assumption that every zone each ship has inherent ship devices. I didn't know how highly configurable SS is.
I must have looked at some other zone..heh... like they said spiders could cloak, but in TW they cant.
It is ironic, that I thought I would help out others, but in the end I helped out myself understand TW better.
Also within the game, you can look on the sides of the screen to see what you have. I didn't know what that meant, and when flying the Warbird you see nothing...obviously...
As with everything new to be learnt, there is a learning curve in attaining the big picture.

You discovered this after... HOW long of playing?
Seriously. I figured that out after two minutes in TW. The settings are exteremly basic, why people make guides like this I'll never know.
