As times change, people leave, less people come and the game slowly dies. This is the fate that all games eventually face in the coming years, but this game is on a different road to death.
As the years have come and gone, The euro community of Trench Wars has had a lot of lag issues that involve jumping from Europe, to the Washington D.C. area where the current "S.S.C.U." server is hosted (Trench Wars and 17th Parallel). Before Trench Wars was in D.C. it was hosted in Finland, where a lot of the European community came from and made squads and played to their heart's content.
The so called "hop one" router has caused a payload of packet loss, cutting packets coming and going from Washington D.C. to Europe, slowly cutting our euro community population to nearly none.
The bottom line is this, our American community is not dwindling in a rapid rate, in fact, it has been the same as it always has been. The reason we are dieing right now, is that the other side of the world that is in the same technological stage as we were when this game thrived cannot play due to the lag factor. Most of Europe is up to tech date, but some are not, and I am pretty darn sure that many have wanted to play that only sit in spectator mode because of the lag.
Here is the deal. There is a possible way to combat this. If you have not noticed yet, our zone carries a connected bridge with Extreme Games. You can hop over to E.G. without logging off and re-logging into E.G.
To go to E.G., type "?go EG".
To go back to Trench Wars, type "?go trenchwars".
It's a awesome tool, and I think we should use this tool to it's potential.
I myself would donate to pay for a server hosted in London, Germany, or whatever to host a European pub by using this very same tool, like typing "?go EuroTW", so that the Europeans can play without dealing with the lag / packet loss.
This will be a very big step for Trench Wars, and I would support it all the way and hope to have a better way for people around the world to play and support in our community once more.
In the end, there are so many ways, even with limits to this game, that we can do to bring back our population. We simply just have to give things a try.
