No it didn't, it still crashed the sever multiple times per day and caused huge strains on the server causing zone wide lag, I did tests with *lag and *tinfo when distension was on/off and the results were pretty for distension causing lag through server strain.

I think your forgetting the 15 crashes a day caused by distension or distension related issues. And the fact that Qan was so fucking stubborn with his bot that he wanted it hosted before TWL and wanted to turn it into an event that was ran 8 hours a day on a set schedule. If he would have just kept it as what it should have been, an event, that got hosted and hosted regularly since it was popular nobody would have had a problem with it. Unfortunately for him he was blinded by his ego and "ability" to code a bot, he refused to admit it was buggy and caused the entire zone to suffer because of 40 or so whining players. So yes, I did do the zone a favor.

Please. qan had very little to do with how/when the bot was run; I became the sole handler of that stuff after a certain point, and I can assure you that if I actually wanted it to run before TWL, it would have, regardless of what you think. Do you know how much I got bitched out by the Distension community because of the times I stopped it from running or shut it down? Also, the zone recycles were NOT due to a bug; they were do to the game server and bot server being on different machines and limitations of this ancient technology. I agree with Zingy in that it's ridiculous that you're attacking someone who has put 100+ hours into this game and never asked for anything in return, especially when you don't know what you're talking about.

Yeah, I'm sorry, but I find it hilariously amusing that you think you "killed" Distension. The fact of the matter is that I stopped running it because qan put in a feature for me to change the setting that dictates how long the bot will wait during a lag spike before killing itself, and it was bugged and didn't work. Before this 'fix' I had the game shut down for weeks because of the crashes. qan told me that he'd be doing a ton of work on Distension over his summer break, but he hasn't logged in for months and it's probably because he's a busy guy and I know video games are far down his list.

The biggest issues with Distension were, number one, the crashing of the zone, and number two, it was not designed to run as often as it did and people quickly reached a limit in ship progression that wasn't meant to be reached so easily. I'm sure Distension will probably be back some day if qan ever returns, but it's going to need some big changes and it would probably require a server move. It's a shame that the issues, enforced lower player limit, etc had to be a factor, because during its peak we had like 40-50 people show up when it was being run.

Also, its nice when people put that kind of time into the game, but when they do so in a way that makes people feel uncomfortable, thats no good. If it wasnt forced down peoples throats and hosted like a normal event people would have reacted better

In hindsight, I agree that it should have been hosted like a normal event, and that's how it was intended to be run. I wouldn't say it was 'forced down people's throats' but the core of players who did like it (including me before I helped run it) went ape shit for it to be run as much as possible, and that's what they were given. In qan's defense, it wasn't him that wanted it hosted so often; he kind of just went with it. H.M.S. Stargazer was the one that started running it on a daily schedule, and I took over doing that after he got tired of it.

Also, Wark has nothing to do with the game not running anymore. It doesn't run because the bot is currently not in a functional state, and because the sole person that can do anything about this is missing in action (HMS said he's in the army but I dunno if he was joking or not). It's too bad, because it would probably need about 30 minutes of work from qan to get the game in a playable state, and then just have the entire database flushed and start anew, except just hosted a few times a week and not hours a day.
