How about some sort of tower defense map?
Off the top of my head:
A couple of different bases/structures with paths to play through.
Two teams: team 1 runners, team 2 towers.
Ship 1 is runner default.
Ship 2 is tower default. I don't know if there's a way to lock ships in place. You might have to just have them move really slow and give them a moment pre-game to set-up, stopping them from moving into the path by gates/doors that open only when round starts, setting spawn points for the team outside the path to stop people moving into it.
Runners can be granted shields after each successful run, as well as other defensive abilities, repel/bricks/portal, to imitate creep toughness progression in tower defense games.
Towers can 'level' up by killing people. Ship 2 to ship 3, 3-4 etc. Each level can unlock a special ability like burst/multifire, bouncy bombs, larger proximity bombs...
Could also have a zombie setting that allows killed runners to join tower team.
The key is to have no obstacles/structures/walls separating the towers from the runners path and have the towers unable to actually get into the path during each run-round, otherwise it just becomes gates.Egyptian.
