Anyway I'm not very fond of the Shaiya website either. But maybe that is just me. I am speaking out of personal point of view here. I'd like to setup a "team" of people who judge about a design, because I am pretty sure that something I like, will not be appreciated again by others.
In my opinion all these websites are too dark. I don't have to tell you that it is very hard creating a proper dark website. Armani is probably one of the only ones that manage to get away with it. Sure, now the color scheme is black/orange, but why not change it around? A lighter website immediately gives a sense of cleanliness and structure (it's not rocket science why Facebook, Google, Skype, ... are as successful as they are).

If we are to change the website, it should be a real improvement compared to the current one. And as for that design, I see a change, but no clear improvement.

Didn't even see this post until now and it brings up some points I wanted to address as well. I very much personally dislike working with dark color schemes. The requirement of wanting to keep the current color scheme of black/grey/orange is obviously something I took into consideration on my first rough draft. I also personally dislike grey and orange together. It seriously hinders on the ability to have a lot of control of the colors as we saw on my rough draft.. you would pretty much have to go with a dark orange all the way around as the lighter oranges on grey are difficult to read.

If it was me I would go with the standard "web 2.0" white/light grey/blues. I just don't see that translating well to this game though overall. I completely understand what you are looking for out of a professional home page but it just doesn't add up for me. We can pull off a good looking dark website. www.jquery.com is a good example in my opinion.

IF there is any leeway in the orange aspect of the design, I would love to know. It would be much easier to work with another color besides orange using a black/grey base. Which brings me to my next point.. who actually has final say in what the design will be? I appreciate feedback of others but I would much rather submit my designs to a small group of people in charge of things rather then post them in here and not knowing who I should be listening to. After all, my job as a designer is to get feedback from the client.. so I need to know who is playing the client.

EDIT: To further clarify, I need to be in direct contact with 1 or 2 people max that have a very clear idea of what the new website is going to be. This cannot be based on a community decision as the majority of the player base has been here almost a decade and are very much used to the current website. It would be a nightmare trying to do that. That is not to say that the community input is not valid. Before anything even happens design wise the people in charge needs to talk to the player base and get suggestions and ideas of what is wanted, and then the final decisions will be made within the people in charge. If that is where the content from the main post was pulled from then great, we are past that. I just need this to be a little more professionally organized if you expect a professional result.

there's never a very clear idea as to what the goal is supposed to be.

that's why i always get bogged down in ss projects, the lack of direction and focus totally kills me.

Ya, I like both of those examples. Both the JQuery and the parallax one. (Between brackets, JQuery is something I'm really fond of and offers a lot of possibilities that I would like to use on the new website (flowplayer tools))

Anyway, Cambia, apparently I have the final say in the new design. I agree that it is impossible to work with feedback from a huge group. But nevertheless, it's good getting some feedback from the public through these forums. That doesn't mean that all the feedback we get will be considered relevant, but things will be taken into consideration and maybe people come up with things we forgot about.

As for the color scheme, I totally agree and I have been saying this from the start. Black is a difficult color to work with and you'll never be able to achieve the clean look I'm aiming for. But the project started under the lead of Arobas+, while I was temporarily inactive because of my Thesis. So now that I kind of replaced him for this project, I would like to change some layout-ideas. Mostly the color scheme thus. I want to discuss this first with some people, but unfortunately I haven't been able to catch the right people yet (Pure_luck, M_M God and 24).

And Jason, I'm planning on setting out a very clear idea, cuz I know (also from experience) that it's near to impossible to work without one.. : )

I see some excellent discussions on here. I agree with you Zazu about potentially changing up the current color scheme. The color combination looks absolutely awful on his example (no fault of yours cambia). I like the top part, where it's in your face to download the game.

Cambia, Zazu will be your best resource on moving this design in the right direction. I trust him 100% and will stand behind any reasonable decisions that he makes for this project. If he wants to move away from anything that arobas+ setup in the original design idea, then so be it. In the end, we are looking for an easy to use, sharp, "sexy" website that shouts "download me" to anybody that visits.

As I'm sure you already realize, the design for the rest of the website will be geared toward current players. It will be filled with cool gadgets, tools, and applications that they can utilize after logging in.

I'm definitely excited on what you have so far and your willingness to work with us to provide the desired results. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact Zazu or 24 using the Continuum client or on here.

I have fooled around with orange/black before when I created a temporary website for TWBR, it is possible to have it done..but it has to be clear for everyone working on it what the desired outcome will be. I am also 100% supporting zazu and his ideas on how the new TW website should look, and since twl/twd etc will also be redesigned and will all fall under the TW main website, we can also choose for other colour schemes as well. The best option right now would be to try and discuss this online in a meeting (zazu, 24, cambia, jason, dezmond? and me). I'm sure we will come to an agreement on what will work best in the end

Made some progress (IMO) transforming the front page. http://www.integra-fg.com/TWNET2/index2.html
Incorporated some of Jason's forum gradients, changed the colors around, tried to make the navigation bar make more sense although I'm still not convinced. Polished up the graphics and I think it looks a lot cleaner now. Focusing more on the blue but using the shades of orange/red as accents.

Not much has been done but if this part is getting closer to what we want it'll be easy to move forward.

EDIT: Oh and it'll look like shit in IE cause of the CSS3 i'm using but that can be fixed later :P

as chance may have it, ive been messing around with css and javascript lately so i might be able to do something for like a week, but then i have to afk from the internet for a month

ps cambia, can u try experimenting with less tall fonts?
those look a little too much like a comic book to me

Yeah most of the links are (the bottom links). The top link has 30 images alone, which I don't believe he did.
