I think there were a few newb-squads ran by a few veterans and some staff out there solely recruiting unknowns into the leagues to get them into it. I don't know the current status of these squads though but we understand that there are still people in pub that don't know much more outside of pub. Personally, I don't know what more that can be done to reach these players besides recruiting them to squads or just simply getting down to just talking with them. But even after that, you still gotta get them to join a squad and show up to games and play. That kind of enthusiasm is hard to find on both sides of the coin: Getting the guy to play and the guy finding it in himself to try it out.

Which reminds me of a topic of discussion I always seem to bring up and has been brought up before: Amateur League. I, myself, don't have the time to run one but it seems like a good idea to get the newbies going.

Hmm.. if TW allows me, and this amateur league thing gets going. I wouldn't mind making a squad and leading it to amateur league (I wouldnt play of course, just practice with them in twbd)

While still being on pene for twl

Bot arena's this to pub "Interested in joining a squad? Type :TW-Pub1:!available, and a squad leader will get back to you!". Make a list, post to forums.

bam, we will be able to quantify the interest people have in moving out of the pubs or not.

Message the list to all captains, etc. entice captains with extra roster spots/pub bucks/twd points if they recruit a newb or based on the newb's pt.

Those who already are interested to join can ask themselves. Those who dont know about twd, will definetly not pm !available unless someone spends some TIME explaining them how it all works. Why just not add "Want to learn more about twd squads? utileze ?help to ask out" or something.
Or, why not advert simple twd games with some humour, like events are adverted? instead of zoning dd#1 facing dd#2 come see ?go wherever, maybe somebody could just make a short joke like: "can Jebass FINALLY snap the losing streak and bring Paladen back to glory?" This would ofcourse require good sence of humour but i guess staff are grown up ppl after all. Also, you can bet on pubduels, how about betting on twd games? And not only betting for winner, but MVP/fastest knocked out/fastest to 10 kills etc.

I don't agree that those that are interested will seek out squads themselves. Who do they pm? How do they know what twd is, let alone a captain of a squad ? A person would really need to seek out this info. An !available command AND a short "Want to learn about TWD squads" command would be great. I remember when i started, I had no idea what bd, dd, or jd was. I remember even crossing the "DO NOT CROSS LINE" because I got curious, and got removed and i'm pr sure I just cried (i was 11...stfu?). This is what its about.

I say throw 'em in, and the captains will tell them where to signup and what NOT to do in each division. I mean c'mon, no one reads the manual! So don't give em a twd manual!

Exactly Magi. I am running such a squad, a couple of vets/experienced players and some players who didn't know about TWD before. Roster cap sadly stopps me from recruiting those.
DF, u can tell this guy, if u ever see him again, that he can contact me. I am sure I will find space in the roster.

And NO, I honestly doubt that a fresh player or a player who doens't know about TWD will pm the bot. People don't even know what the bot is for, only some of the new players know that they can !buy stuff.

And, DF, I am currently working on a "chat" (as in ?chat=xxx) to get new players to join. If you didn't know already, this is no secret, staff is alerted when a new player enters the game and staffers will TALK (no bots) to this people. Ideally, staffers will get this people to pm back and explain the game and in addition to that they will try to get them on the chat=xxx. Where, I hope in some time, that all the zones newbies will be together and ask questions which availiable staffers can answer, but #1 point is that they see that this game is also about social community.

Also, since I am squadding along with people who haven't played TWD before I know how these people react: they don't care about losing/winning. We are on a lose streak since forever, still they're asking for more games (it's hard to find daily games with the roster cap, COUGH). So the theory that new players are getting frustrated is kind of invalid.
