I mean this in the best possible way because I respect the shit out of you Reaver (As much as you can respect a 2d spaceship pilot i guess) but I honest to god cannot urge you strongly enough to not waste your money on this particular project. You mentioned you were anticipating a 40% backout rate from people who "pledged" to help. I am telling you with 100% certainty based on my last year in TW Staff (Including SMod time) that that number is more likely going to be around an 80-90% backout rate.

The general population in this zone preaches solutions day in and day out but when the time comes to act in order to fix things, everybody is suddenly "too busy". Even the people in this thread that volunteered to help, I didn't count exactly but lets assume 15... I'd be amazed if any more than 2 actually followed through with their promise. Your faith in our community is seriously jaded if you think our group of fully grown trolls and societal rejects deserves $2200 out of your own pocket.

Once again I urge you as strongly as I possibly can to reconsider your stance, I can provide you more specific details via PM if you desire, as some things the public should never see. In short: The ends would not even come close to justifying your means.

To reach the critical mass needed to get it moving would probably require those 175 posts to be talking actively about Diablo. New "hot" threads would need to get caught in some search engine algorithms. Heated debates, discussions about strategy, cheats/bugs, etc. Those are the things people are interested in.

The domain name is another gamble in itself. If it is significantly better then the lower tier names, then it could be worth it. If not, we could pluck a lower-tier one and establish a presence. I've read (skimmed) a few PDFs on SEO's, and what I'm hearing a lot about are having "hot keywords" and consistent activity and longevity.

For right now I have zero free time. But, I bet a few of you guys could put your heads together and get something done. I don't play any other PC games besides this one, so my knowledge on the PC gaming world is limited. But, I expect some of these LoL and that one star wars RPG type of guys (TURBAN YOUR CUE) to have at least some working knowledge of how "real" gaming sites work.

Well it says there's 245 active members of this forum. Say 10% (which is probably optimistic not to mention most won't be able to post about diablo because they nothing about it) of those agree to post on your forum and each do an average of one post a day. That's 25 posts per day and 175 posts per week. Is that going to be enough to help make your forum popular enough so it's worth your investment?

Saying it wouldn't work is like saying advertising wouldn't work and that's a billion dollar industry. Let's take an extreme example, let's suppose a millionaire comes a long and offers to pay for a superbowl commercial for continuum, the ad is watched by millions of people, are you implying that this wouldn't increase the player base at all? I mean, I can spend some time here proving to you guys that advertising works and that there are people who have never heard of continuum that would be interested in playing but I'd rather not waste your time and mine. Isn't $1000 a little steep for just a domain name? Or will we be getting an actually good domain name?

Idea sounds doable but i'm a little skeptic on how popular the site would be. This idea has more variables than if we were to just pay for ads on some random gaming site forums.

Personally, I say the money tournaments are not doing what we wanted them to do. Money is just circulating between the same players. I say dump ~80% into continuous ads on specific gaming forums who would be interested in this type of stuff, and kick back and see if anything changes. A bit of a more conservative approach, but less worrying involving.

Well, I look at the domain name this way, a very cheap domain name could be had but then the SEO costs to get on the first page of google results for important keywords would go way up, and depending on how competitive it becomes it could be significantly more costly in the long run to achieve those same results than just going with a more expensive domain name that has the keywords in it and is an exact search.

I'm more or less tossing around ideas and seeing how much support there is because I'm not too confident in what's been done up to this point.

Hey Paradise. (paradise right? - Did you give your forum name away too?).

If you're willing to put forth the effort to contact those websites, get the prices/deals negotiated, and present your efforts in a presentable format I'll be happy to go over it with you and upper staff. If it makes sense, let's do it.

Let me know what you come up with and keep me apprised of your results. (It's quite a bit harder than it sounds)

Would be on both forums a bunch and it wouldnt be too much more effort for the mod to host the 2nd game (since he has all the numbers, just diff roles for different people)

An advertising block for a few months is just a guarantee, anything beyond that is just gravy. I only want to work on guarantee's so that I give what is promised and if I give more then it's not an issue, which is probably what would happen. And as I mentioned a permanently stickied thread in the section for discovering new games

As for people not following through, yeah I anticipated, I was going to plan on having about 60% of the people follow through
