(9/29 to 10/6) Week 1

Any and all updates for this week/session go in this thread. I recognize there won't be much else going on, but let's try our best anyways.

The topic I'd like to start with is an intro to who we are and all the information about how were going to run PR (what the public needs to know.) So basically who is involved, why this position has been created, and how to contact us if they have questions or want more info.

Moving on from there, we'll cover the big topics of the week we picked during the meeting, primarily advertising but also mentioning new pub. For new pub, I want some hard-core journalism going. For example, why aren't the LVZs on yet? This is a big issue and we need to ask the questions that need answers. Also, if there''s anything else you want to cover, post it here of course.

Beyond that, we need to get updates for

• TWDT, posting winners and what the next round will look like.
• ECT, even if it's as simple as posting what the weekend events will be
• Updates on the website, if they don't mind us posting that
• DEV!!! Specifically this time, 24 and Hack were working on a way to stop newbies from getting spawn d/ced the moment they enter pub. Find out more and report back!

Again, if there's something I'm forgetting something please mention it here. Also, these are our forums. I don't care what you post as long as it's PR related. Please make sure to note if something is private for staff or even PR eyes only. Beyond that, just do what you know to do. Take initiative. Ask questions. Answer questions. Change the following in server.cfg

or the autowarp to training area where they kill a bot a few times and all that jazz, that works too

I was referring to the latter. All that computer mumbo-jumbo is confusing to the average TW player :/ Could you explain?

Just saying it's kinda dumb to kick people after 10 consecutive deaths right now. That's easily attainable for a new player just starting and can cause them to quit the game. The only time I ever get DCed due to deaths now is if i'm playing an event on a non-staff name and get spawn-tked in an event.

The average player wouldn't have to do anything to change the amount of deaths before the server D/C's you, a sysop would just need to change the above value on the servers "server.cfg" file. With the newer pubbux system, nobody really pays much attention to score or k/d ratio anymore, and the only way you're going to hit 25 consecutive deaths is to go afk in pub, and you'll still probably hit that in one or two rounds. Just makes sense to me to change it.

If a player fires, they won't get dcd anyway. The issue is the player not knowing how to fire, so I think the solution is the area where they learn to shoot.

What if we came up with a map to replace the current pub map that was more instructional, and moved the pub map to ?go pub or something along those lines. The new default entry map could have 4 boxes. I say 4 boxes because in the .cfg file, you can set 4 different freq spawning points. So when they enter, the default enter message for the area, or even a splash entry image could say Hit esc + 1 to learn to play. It warps them to a box that has written on the side of it explaining how movement and ship changes work. Then at the end something like "when you feel comfortable hit =1 for the next step of the tutorial" They then go to a box that explains things such as shooting.. bullets, bombs, laying mines and go into multifire. The third box could be discussing how special items and stuff work.. such as cloak, antiwarp, burst, portal, brick, decoy, thor. The last box explains how to navigate arenas then welcomes them to the zone hoping they enjoy their stay and suggest typing ?go pub to join the majority of the players in the public arena.

The only issue that there would be from this is that when you change the pub arena, it makes all arenas not already assigned lvl, lvz, and cfg files into that arena as well, so will people care that their ?go #myafk will now look like the tutorial arena that defaults you to enter to?

Edit : I think something like this could be a lot easier for staff as well as far as new player calls. We could have everyone get in the ships with them and fly around to answer any questions as they go through the tutorial. The cfg file has it as Freqs 0,1,2,3 So if i wanted to show my newbie how the bullets work as far as hits to kill someone, i could join him/her in Freq 0 in freq 4 and show them how these things work against someone (the numbers start back over after 3 going back to the first spawn point.. so freq 0,4,8,12 are all the same box.. and you can figure out the rest.) Also good for showing how repels works with bombs, mines, bullets and so forth.

Sorry, I didnt realize these forums were for all staff. I haven't gotten to formally introduce myself as Public Relations head, and you guys are already getting behind the scenes looks! It's fine though... great actually. This post should help you all better understand what PR is going to do and how I intend to run it, and help you understand what each other department in staff is doing each week. That settled, let's begin!
Hi, I'm WillBy and I'm the newly appointed head of TWStaff Public Relations. Assisting me are Reckful and K A N E <ZH>. Our job is basically consist of easing the flow of conversation between Upper Staff, Staff in general, and the general TW public. This is going to be done in two ways: 1st, we have what I've nicknamed the "reporting" or "newspaper" side. My plan is to gather information from around staff (and around TW in general??), and publish it. The thread would then be open for discussion. We would publish these AT LEAST every 2 weeks and try to be as inclusive as possible. However, we won't just be representing staff here. That brings me to the other part of our job, getting ideas up through staff. Luckily, this was made easy for me by creation of a council to vote on ideas submitted by players. So any ideas can go there.. (not here I like that ideas are being thrown around, but this isn't exactly what I had in mind for this specific thread or any of this kind. Go to My Settings, then General Settings, and scroll down until you can change your skin to vB4 Default Skin. Makes everything easier to read unless spock decides to type in all florescent green =p

Huh? That wouldnt be necessary, pS would just change the current pub map to the new training map. You wouldnt have to get a seperate server for anything.
