Mass Email upon server restart

May be a good idea to send everyone an email that TW is back up, once things have been ironed out.

I've actually suggested a similar idea to staff to "?lostpassword" every player (I forgot if this strategy was possible or not) so everyone gets an email. I think a lot of players have their names attached to a working e-mail adress. If it works I'm sure there are some old vets who would come back and check TW out again.

Good idea if it even gets 1 more player to comeback.
But many are not correct anymore and may be beyond our reach.
I know mine is over 15 years old and the emails I thought I used are not on my registration.
We can start with getting existing players to give an active email address besides the one used during registration.

In general, a monthly newsletter to all registered e-mails would regularly remind us of the existence of this game . . . that wouldn't be a bad idea. We would all see that this game is still active.

An intricate concept would be required (containing all active zones, maybe a "screenshot of the month", the award for the most innovative banner etc). The SS council should be the organ to discuss such matters.

But of course, first of all, all zones should encourage the active players to update the e-mail address.

Yeah those are all valid ideas, I actually recently thought about ?lostpassword aswell. As soon as TW is up and running again and either these attacks have stopped or we have protection up against it, we can move on towards sending out a monthly newsletter via email. Any help/ideas are welcomed.

Seriously? Send an email to the email account I had back in 1998? Send an email to addresses that players have no way to update in over a decade? What percentage of email addresses are even valid? Can the email addresses be filtered by zone (i.e. just those that played TW)?

The trouble with any email idea is that the email addresses are not in the control of TW, they are in the control of the biller. And while there was a way that allowed players to update their email addresses for whatever reason the people who control the biller decided to disable it.

while us older players won't receive any emails, mostly because the sites we used are either gone or we haven't used our old email in the last 10 years, i think it would still be a good thing to send out a newsletter. most likely several of our new players used their current email when they registered to the game.

I started out in 2004 as well, so I'm an older player just like yourself. I still use/log on to the address I entered at the start. Not everyone used some vague e-mail host/client or entered a random address.
