Based on what I've seen in staff forums, a few things were needing to be done. As usual though, our low supply of dev staff is causing things to move slowly. There was a checklist with things to be done, but some tasks appear to still be unfinished. Mostly involving the installer and interface with Steam. There are also a lot of unanswered questions involving other zone's ability to be prepared, as well as some significant things that the SSC billing server needs to address (name/squadname availability, should the biller be reset/upgraded/etc?).

Has there actually been any notable progress in this area? I haven't heard anything.

Wouldn’t it suck if everything falls into place…the zone sees a big flush new players…but about 4-5 assholes run them all off within the first few hours they play?

What assholes? ‘Vets’ who endlessly own them. Others who copy and paste endless crap in pub. Those who hate on everyone else.

Not saying we all need to hold hands and sing Kumbaya but we might want to show some consideration towards new players. Cut tem some slack, perhaps even teach them a few things about TW when they enter.

I notice that everyone feels this way, but from what I heard ... everyone's idea to stop the bullying is just to either isolate newbies to a foreign map, or bombard them with bots/mods/files, or any number of things that will make them feel either alienated, or overwhelmed. At the end of the day, they probably still won't even solve the original problem, which is to make sure they are still having fun in the process.


What if we just do the opposite to that? What if we make a regular (or practice) pub for them, but ALL the vets, not the new players (with maybe a few exceptions who are/have been known to help new players) are either banned or ship-locked from these maps? Not only would it not be a big deal if they weren't "spoon-fed EVERYTHING" right away, but newbies would still be free to explore, especially events ... not trapped in a different server (ASSS), but they would probably be naturally drawn to the map full of people at their own skill level.
Of course this would only if there was a really big influx of new players, enough to fill up a new pub by themselves.

yes, there are a few things in the work, but lots of dumb people scared off all the games developers, so progress is notably slow

thing is, using 10 year old server software with updates far exceeds the capabilities of 20 year old server software, and provides a lot more teaching tools that can give newbs the skills they need to actually be able to survive let alone try to get kills in a populated arena
