  • I Just Redownloaded Continuum and It Says I'm Banned til 8-14-2015???????

Why am I banned? I've never been banned for any reason, so I'm wondering why I have a huge ban under the name Exalt in TW???

What kind of horrible staffer fucked something up badly enough to ban a player who hasn't even logged in for who knows how many months? That makes zero sense.

    Ban ID #21696

Someone please explain who banned me and why. Thanks

ALSO: IF this is due to some Network SSC ban that I'm caught under, I'd like to know who the fuck is an SSC Op that catches half of TW under network bans that make no fucking sense.

Perhaps before you actually join Steam if that's even realistic, you should fucking get rid of these retarded SSC Ops who don't know what the fuck they're doing. This is extremely annoying. I'm also not going to email any of those ******s if that's what this is just to be able to play a dead game. These fucks should be axed from their positions.

I think i can help with this one. I was anti-warping in spawn and despite me getting warned a few times- i kept doing it and they said i'm now gonna be banned- so i left quickly. Now how you got my ban??? Its a mystery to me but anyway it was fun playing with the name Exelt.

can't banG ops place blanket bans on an entire "sub address", ie they could ban anyone loggin in from 10.***.***.*** if they wanted to? if they can, i wonder if there's a review process in place to make sure they haven't blanketbanned half the IPv4 blocks that exist

          Ummm?????

          Wtf??

Even if this is true, and Fork was using some name like Exelt, that is still complete and utter incompetence by Left_Eye.

Staff like that need to go. I'm uninstalling again. So much for that effort.

Sounds like a caught ban to me, but Exalt does raise 1 valid point - there are approx 480 active bans in of duration of greater then 12 months which also includes name bans (was 417 in Oct when i actively checked them). There us an additional 100+ active netbans.

Obviously i cant explain the full detail on how people are caught, but i can guarantee a minimum of 10% of these bans, and more realistically 40% will catch at least 1 other player. Certain relating to computers default to a common figure, thus the catch.

This means in terms of Steam there will be players banned who have never played this game before full stop. I know i has The_Paul do a bang wipe approx 3 years ago where between us we wiped all bans over 12 months wheee possible and probably cleared 70% of old bans off, and may e that can be done again, but any bans placed will need a careful track to avoid the common indicator(LE knows what that is). Watching those bans are a full time job, and i probably spent 3hrs a day outside of playing the game just dealing with ban evasion and caught bans, to try to remove the catch.

                That's not the point.

This is my point. Play the hypothetical game with me for a second:

Let us pretend that the Steam initiative worked. Let us pretend that Continuum was now on Steam, and new players downloaded the game.

Now let us pretend that quite a few of those new players try to enter this zone they see named Trenchwars, because it has the most players, so clearly it must be the best zone.

Let us pretend that they get an error message that pops up, and it tells them that they are banned for 6 months, here is your ban Id#, if you feel this ban is in error, go out of your way and email trenchwars.org/support and pray that someone actually checks that email (they don't). Also, there is no reason for this ban stated, so please, new player that has never stepped foot inside this 20 year old game, send us this email and wait months and months for it to be answered, and then come back and try this game out for the very first time ever.

                What will happen?

Do you think this player will go out of their way to find forums or email this BanG Op (which they have no idea what a BanG Op or an SSC Op even is, because how would they?), and tell this player named Left_Eye that they are banned and that doesn't make sense? Do you think they will find these forums and try oh so hard to register and all of the above just so they can play a 20 year old game for the very first time ever?

What exactly will happen? Will they stick around and go way, way, way, way out of their way to get someone's royal fuck up removed to play this AMAZING looking game with the best graphics they've ever seen, and OMG they can see 20 people playing!

                No.. They won't.

Someone give me a SINGLE reason why network bans are even used and happen in TW or SSC. Someone explain to me why a BanG Op can be so fucking lazy as to literally end up banning the wrong people, just because they can't figure out how to ban a single name. Why are these staff members retaining their positions for one thing, and for another, why are they allowed to do network bans when those network bans ALWAYS fuck over multipleinnocent players? What kind of ridiculous policy is that, and why is it still in place in a dying game?

Seriously, give me one good reason why network bans are used in this game any longer. Because you don't want to actually do your job and find someone who evades their ban, so you just ban the entire network?

Beat me to it Demonic haha. I agree with you, clearly, since I posted more or less the same thing.

Steam players being caught under network bans is unacceptable in my opinion. They wouldn't know how to even get them removed first of all, and a brand new player won't go out of their way to do so anyways. I don't understand why network bans are even used in this day and age. Is it that hard to just name ban someone and catch them if they evade?

network bans from TW is rare and only really used when whatever has impacted the zone, would have an impact on others.

As i alluded to earlier, bang itself will need a review based on Steam, and may need Turban to review. I assume i still hold my bang lvl so can probably look at what that figure actually is, but it needs acting on soon.

I don't know if this was a mistake (or catch, w/e you guys call it) by Lefty or by an SSC Op, but I'm far more worried about the SSC Ops who don't play TW or rarely even log in this game period.

Those players can ruin things for everyone simply with their SSC network bans. That is a ticking time bomb waiting to happen.

Beyond my obvious frustration, my point is asking why network bans are used at all? I can understand it if someone tried crashing the server or something really, really bad like that, but I don't understand why BanG Ops can't just Name Ban someone and just find them if they evade? I know it isn't that difficult to find the aliases of players, and those players always get caught in the end.

More or less, Steam will add two problems:

                      1. People WILL try to cheat, because that's just how gamers are these days, and newbies won't like being owned by veterans consistently. They will try to cheat at least, so bans on cheating players should probably be reviewed. Possibly give warnings to brand new players who try using CE or something like that, rather than just straight banning them for a year. If they like the game enough to try to cheat to get better at it, they have potential to stick around and get better without hacks.

                      2. Network bans will obviously catch brand new players, and these players will never try logging in again, let alone try to get the ban removed in a game they've never played before. This is an automatic loss of a potentially new player.

What kind of person bans MORE people than the entire population of a game? This doesn't sound right whatsoever.

Also, Left_Eye was online, but he decided to log off after I PMed and ?messaged him. So what that tells me is he loves taking the time to ban people and catching others in netbans due to that, but doesn't take the time to remove his mistakes.
