I was surprised to see in my email from PCInsight Newsletter an article on Subspace....
The Tweak Guide

Free Games Are Good Games
Everyone's out to make a buck, and we can't blame them for trying. Game developers are no exception: they work hard to make games that will at least help them cover development costs. Sometimes things don't work out that way though, and for whatever reason the game is offered for free.
There are tons of games out there worth checking out, but most of them cost something. There are, however, quite a wide variety of free games that are actually exciting to play (plus, they save you money to spend on new hardware or another software title).
Subspace is one of my favorites. It's an addicting, massive-multiplayer online overhead shooter that makes up for what it lacks in graphics with incredible gameplay. The game offers eight different space ships, hundreds of game modes, several different weapons, and some of the most balanced yet entertaining action a game has ever offered. Since it isn't graphically intensive, it can be played on even the slowest systems. The best thing about Subspace is that since VIE dropped the game several years ago, it is free. Check out Subspace's site for a download link and more info: http://www.subspace.net.
If space combat isn't your cup of tea, perhaps racing is? You can't get a free version of Gran Turismo for the PC, but you can find many decent simulators for free that will satisfy your need for speed. Live for Speed (http://www.liveforspeed.com) is actually a game that will be commercially available, but is currently being developed and so it's currently free to play. The game has a few different cars, great physics, and nice graphics. Another of these simulators is "Racer" (http://www.racer.nl). It's also still in development, but offers realistic physics and decent 3D graphics. If you're more into drag racing, check out Nitto Tires' free offering that's completely online-based (http://www.nitto1320.com).
Keep your eyes peeled, as there are thousands of free games available worth playing. Make the most of your Internet connection and snag them before heading to the store with your credit card.
Wow, now even more lambs to the digital crack addiction...
ok ok, so Subspace isn't that bad, but god are they right about it being addictive, geez.........
Go Subspace, 6 years strong and growing "hmmm reminds me of the flintstone vitamin song" Anyways, all I had to say.
Peace,
Stylez
