Another of these threads that present ideas which will most likely never be implemented.
I know that most of those are just brainstorming and not even meant to be serious suggestions, but just to clear any misunderstandings, I'd like to inform about what can, and what can't be done. (without big changes in the programs at least)

I doubt there will ever be a 9th ship. One simple reason is that it would need changes in Continuum client and most likely in the server software too. This would also destroy any backward compatibility immeditalely and all clients and servers would have to be upgraded. And then the graphics... Also, Continuum has always followed original ss pretty closely, all old maps and settings that worked in ss client, work in continuum. 9th ship would destroy this. All this for one extra ship seems kinda too much. Only "reasonable" possibility would be if Priitk makes the number of ships a variable. This would force every zone to create graphics for the ships after 8 and put it in a lvz file or something like that. This would also have many problems. (Like if wb is Esc+1 what would ship 11 be? )

A partial "solution" would be putting a bot in spec that takes ship requests, and then giving the player bullets + bombs and stuff like that depending on the ship he chose. This way there could be hundreds of different ships. Problems with this: Having to message the bot can be annoying, movement of the ships can't be changed this way (only 8 possible movement "profiles") and graphics of the different ships can't be changed. (only 8 possibilities for graphics.)

Then another thing: 8 is enough for any reasonable arena/zone. No need for more. Actually sometimes it's too much, forcing the arena/zone maker to create futile ships without much purpose, so I'd preferably see a setting that would cap the number of different ships. (This can already be done by making ships depend on freq, and making max freqs to lower than 8, but then it isn't possible to have different ships on same freq.)

Then about nightwasp: No it wasn't a 9th ship. There has never been a 9th ship. As stated before nightwasp was just a ship given to the highest scorer of the arena. (Now it's indicated by the rotating shield thingy) If you look at your graphics directory you notice that there is wbroll.bm2, jvroll.bm2, etc. but you won'f find ln or la or lc for lancaster, instead, there is nwroll.bm2. So nightwasp is still there, in some form. :P

Then about those features for the 9th ship:

Self destruction: No can do. There is no way one can kill himself. (best possibility would be taking all bombs for every other ship, give this ship a 3 screen wide blast radius and 0 reload.)

Medic: Not possible. Turretting can only affect carrier's speed and thrust. (Only possibility would be making a but that gives full charge greens or reload greens (and gives a negative reload green when it moves away) to people close to the "medic" but that would be just silly)

Invisible mines: This can be done by replacing graphics of some level mine with empty space, but the whole invisible mine thing is stupid. Some people would just main the tube or entrance and watch bounty go up. (People do this already in sharks, but now it would be 10 times worse)

Bounce emp bomb: Nopes, choose one.

Bricks: Bleh, stupid. With a brick time of over 2 secs one would do this in basing: Attach, fly to base entrance, drop brick, die, attach, etc. Anyone ever tried playing the trapmatch arena without it being hosted?

Brookus' suggestion don't deserve even this much attention. (Sry, Brookus you suck! Also notice big B)
