The main problem with 3d is that in most 3d ship games the ships fly like airplanes, e.g. they go in the direction that they are pointing. Take that away (with inertia and thrusters) and you gain unprecedented flexibility, but increase the complexity for the user tremendously.
Also, Subspace 3d would make it many times harder to design levels. And the transparent ship seems unbalanced. That's why we have cloaks that burn energy when on, so that people can't cloak and shoot at the same time.
Finally, Subspace 3d would require massive amounts of computer resources, both for the client and the server.Zemyla>You know, quoting yourself in your sig is a sign of irredeemable narcissism.

Besides, Subspace is subspace for a reson. O_o It has it's own set of laws, like... it's 2d hence you can see what's on the other side of walls. It would be a 3d game riding on the ss name...

SS 3d would totaly change everything. When i watched the preview for it on that site, it looked awesone, but like some of you said, it would take a lot of resources and probably have to be sold in stores intead of being able to DL it cause itd take way too long. Also, everyone would have to adapt the the view changes. You wouldnt be able to see both in font and behind at the same time anymore. That was when the last topic was posted about it too.
And that is not what I call 3d. In that game there the ships are just viewed from an isometric viewport of whateverthehell it is called instead of the good old top view.
