Why I got banned

I just find this funny, I got banned for using the word Inuit.

The definition of an inuit is: A member of a group of Eskimoan peoples inhabiting the Arctic from northern Alaska eastward to eastern Greenland, particularly those of Canada.

Explain to me how going "I killed an inuit, silly %killed" is considered racist?

The ban is only one day, and it's not that important to me, I just found it mildly amusing that staff is so up tight that they ban over any word pertaining to race.

I started the macro because I was having a conversation with melo about the igloo base he made that arilou kept turning down, and I jokingly said "arilou is racist towards eskimos." After some talking, I learned eskimo is a racist term for an inuit. After more talking I made the macro in the arena I was in with melo, and then I continued to use it, I then changed my macro to conform to the fact that calling an inuit stupid is racist (my original macro was "i killed a stupid inuit %killed.") And then I got banned.

It's borderline racist, with more insensitivity than hatred, but still enough to get you warned not to use it, though not necessarily worthy of a ban on its own. Of course, you didn't provide any specifics about what happened after any warning which could change that assessment.


And if you aren't sure why it's offensive, it's not insomuch the use of the word, but the context in your macro. The fact that you're "killing" them is one thing, as is the way the term is being used in a demeaning manner, in the way that the use of "newbie" in a macro saying "I killed a newbie" is demeaning. Using a racial term (and I mean "racial term", not necessarily "racist term") as a demeaning name is a racist act, even if the word on its own is not offensive. It's not so much the word but the context that caused the problem.


Oh, and I'd consider the use of the word "stupid" in that macro is less of a problem than using the term "Inuit" in this manner.

I Don't know or care why Inuit is considered racism, infact staff can ban you for calling someone a Soot if they can justify it. Soot is black, black people are victims of racism, Saying the word Soot in TW must be offencive and even if no one complains staff can ban people for it no matter what they are trying to say. I have got over it all now, you really can't win so either stop saying things that could be considered risky or just do it with more style.

Melo was Inuit <ER> before he got the name Melo <ER>. Somebody had taken Melo <ER> when Melo was <ZH>.

if you said "I killed an african-american, silly %killed"... sure, african-american is politically correct and not racist, but, it makes sense that someone would get banned for something like that, right? i'd say same goes for the eskimos
