newbs?

i have always supported new players in ss because they replace veterans who are mainly inactive, but does anyone else notice that tw has like 10 vets and 500 newbs now?

Here's a question to challenge your intelligence: if you started playing four years ago and someone started playing three years ago, and the third person started playing two years ago, is first person a vet and other two newbs?

If you answered yes to that question, then think about this - how can someone be a vet if there are people who started playing five years ago?

And if to throw in this additional fact:
If to think about TW newb/vet rotation, in the mind of the average newbie its approximately two weeks, after that he learns the proper TW etiquette and starts calling other people newbs.

So we can conclude that only true vets of TW would be people who starting playing not later than (Age of TW)+13 days, next day after that the person who started playing first called someone who just logged on a newbie and all other two week old people decided that they are elite veterans.

The problem is, if a person has aged five years and keeps calling himself an elite veteran, how should you REALLY call him? =)

That's not an exact quote but you get the idea.

I personally agree fully, usage has very little to do with being a newb. Especially someone who uses F1 to learn the commands and someone who reads/follows the zone rules.

Cundor is a funny guy, yet his points are very clear and make an amazing amount of sense. Cundor for sysop! But in relation to this post, I know of countless numbers of TW players who have more usage than me (I'm not sure how much I have exactly, but I have over 2300 hours on pegasis), yet I remember when these people started, and many of them I still consider to be newbs. I think newb is a word for unskilled people, not people who have been playing for a short time period. I had been playing TW for about a year when Tobester (Tobe) started playing, and within two months he was better than me, and within six months he was on a better squad than me, and then he became staff. When did I stop considering him a newb? After I saw him owning baseelim, and after he owned me in a duel. So time really doesn't have all that much to do with the term newbie.... Especially since many people who have been playing at least a year less than me are considered "leet vets"

I've been playing this game for 5 years (98' - 03'), and there are people who are better or as good as me, but have only been playing for a year. Newb isn't really a status so much as something a "vet" says to make themselves feel like they have that veteran status. More of a derrogotory word for someone who you've killed or has killed you, and you didn't like it. So you call someone a newb giving you that piece of mind that you're more "elite" than them.

If you had a type of passageway into "vethood" (like how the jewish people have a barmitsfa, the passageway into manhood) I think it would be getting into your first TWD squad and winning a match. Doesn't matter against who (the higher ranked the better), but just that 1st victory in TWD rises you up above all the people in pub just doing pub stuff.

But the fact is taht people who play longer think they have newer players "Newbs". I mean come on, everyone was new at soemtime or another. It's the only way they are going to learn is to be newbs first, but blantently pointing that out makes YOU look stupid.

Tyson_Bitbeast has played for a year, but he's one of the best contenders I've seen. Is he a "newb"?

I've played for 5 months... I'm still somewhat new.

The point I'm trying to make that is if it hurts you to be called a newb, then you are one. If you aren't a newb then you don't have to argue with the idiot taht called you one.
