  • Pop-Up Ads Within Subspace

Here is an idea to get people pissed off. This would be an interesting way to pay off the debt/bills on the server. If it is even possible to have pop-up ads in Pubs or certain arenas, then some money can be generated without making the players pay for it.

Better yet, if for the month enough money is donated, then the pop-up adds could be taken offline ( or if they want to be greedy, leave it on. ).

Just get those pop-up adds to come up in the middle of the screen when you enter a pub or an arena and nothing more. Its just like when you enter the Hockey Zone and it shows its logo when entering.

Hey, its an idea. Its not TOTALLY bad, just post whatever pointless flaming you have against it. =-p

This idea has been breached before, but it's been a while back so I won't get mad about the re-post.

    Reasons why this wouldn't work:
    1) The population of the game is way too small for any prospective advertiser to think it would be effective. Even though TW is the most-populated zone in Continuum, even at 1000 people, it'd still be miniscule in the eyes of advertisers. The math stipulates that it won't work.

    2) Pop-ups are extremely annoying. This is a free game, and if I wanted to see an ad for Super 8 Ultra Absorbant Tampons, I'd go check out cundor's personal webpage. (That guy loves his feminine hygiene.) Paying to make something go away that wasn't there in the first place sucks.

    3) That's the magic number. Yes it is. It's the magic number. Somewhere in this hip-hop soul community was born 3: Mase, Dove and me, and that's the magic number.

Don't get me wrong, everyone loves that you're trying to come up with a solution--show that initiative homeskee. However, it just won't work.
Music and medicine, I'm living in a place where they overlap.

I guess the only alternative is to set a "Donation Jar" in Wal-Mart. It will have no name or nothing else. It could say on the Jar "Donation for children to play games." Just set it down, on a table, with no one around. I bet you could get $100 on the first or second day of doing this. HAHA

Edit: Who dares me to try this? I will take digital shots of the jar and the money I collected. =D

Edit Again: Think about if we had 100 players around the country trying to setup this donation scheme. If everyone cooperated, thats about 10 grand in a week. Oh my bad, i didnt mean "scheme." This will be a REAL operation and yes children need games like subspace. Of course, this idea will have to be done after the holidays. ( I dont want those santas with the bells kicking my ass for stealing their donations. )

Ehh, "Donation for children to play games" is not SAD enough...

"Donating to those that can't afford games." sounds better.

                  LOL.

That is SOOO true for most SS players, but those who would donate would think of us as living in cardboard boxes with no life rather than us sitting on our asses playing a game with no life.

Thats a good one though. I like that more than mine.

Im serious though. Im sure we could do the donation thing because it is for a real cause! Just deceitfully tell the wal-mart people that you are doing a fundraiser through your "club" and to help those children that have "needs."

After all, im a sucker for giving donations to a jar that made no sense. My wal-mart recently had a jar on a table right by the front door. It said donation to needy children. I gave a dollar for fun. I didnt really think about wtf that jar is REALLY there for. Maybe someone from EverQuest or some crap is doing this operation behind my back.

I don't like or see how your fundraising ideas would work. I think Twsites.com is enough with donations. I had an idea for twsites.com, someone could design a full page ad for it then people could print it off and put it in their school's and work places. I know a lot of people who would pay for some good web hosting (IBT program at my school).

I didnt say it would work entirely. Your idea of printing and posting solves the issue with "Subspace only has about 1200 people and the math doesnt add up for ads."

What we need is a sustainable income to off set the server costs not surpratic 5-10 $ here and there. Selling food and peices of crap (sorry it had to be said) just isn't going to work in my opinion.

The money DoCk> makes from www.twsites.com goes to the TW server.

if 100 people had 5$- 10$. Then it wouldnt be such a crappy amount of money.

But yes, sustainable income of course would work. Just one of us has to come up with a fresh idea to make money. Selling server webspace like twsites.com is a great idea.

However, a HUGE spurt of income could also be better than the sustainable income. I remember when I did a raffle for school. We began during November and made it a christmas raffle. Generated 1,000$ while the raffle tickets were sold for a dollar a piece. ( We gave away a DVD player, a food certificate, and a couple of 10$ cash prizes. )
