lol. Politcally anyone can be racist to whites legally. Although, white (caucasian) people calling (w/e color, i dont care, pick one outta the rainbow) black or mexican or canadian people (w/e racist u can think of) ni**er, w 3t b 4 c k, w 0 p, w/e is illegal.

This being said, its ok to be racist against white people, but its not for white people to be racist against any other race. Now, isnt this discrimination anyway?

Racism is a state of mind, and nothing can be done to address this. In most places in the world, you are allowed to think whatever you like. Discrimination, on the other hand, is acting on a racist attitude. In most places in the world, it is either illegal, discouraged, or just generally considered as wrong.

Given this, how do we apply it to TW and the TW community? Of course, anyone can think whatever they want to, no one wants to stop this from happening.
So we need to address what happens when there is an act of discrimination. This can be defined as, ““treatment or consideration based on class or category rather than individual merit; partiality or prejudice”. So, the folks that have been talking about ‘context’ are correct. If someone says “I want a cracker”, the context is food. If someone says “You are a cracker” then the context is prejudice. The ‘N’ word is, of course, mainly (95%?) used in a discriminatory way, but not in all cases. (Stating to someone in a chat that you saw someone get banned for saying the word '****** ' is not being discriminatory.)

I’m not completely sure of how this is currently being implemented in TW, but my understanding is that certain words are captured by Bots. Do to the important issue of context, this seems like a fine way to issue a warning but not to actually ban anyone.
If someone uses a word in a context that is not discriminatory, getting a warning from a Bot shouldn’t be a big issue to anyone. The Bot simply issues a warning and then logs the incident. If the word is used again, the Bot should notify the staff. The staff can then make a decision about the context. (Obviously, it would be great if Bot could do this all but I doubt anyone is going to program THAT much intelligence into a Bot.)

If this is the way it works, why would anyone have an issue with this? If this isn’t the way it works, should this approach be considered?

The issue goes back to how staff members makes those decisions. While there are a lot of complaints about the age and maturity of certain staffers, that has minimal bearing on how they handle more mundane duties. When it comes to issues like racism, however, you need a mature individual to handle situations which arise. Just from reading these forums you can see that a lot of people feel uncomfortable even discussing the issues, and more often than not, unable to and incapable of contribute positively to them. That is not an indictment of their character necessarily, but more a statement of society.

As it is, a lot of the situations that arise have been dealt with rather clumsily and with little tact.

I may seem a bit ignorant for this, maybe it's an American word? But when I see the word crackers I think of it as either meaning mad/bonkers "You're crackers!" or meaning those things you pull at Christmas. There must be some other meaning to it so could someone please enlighten me?

"Cracker" is used in the USA by some people as a racist and derogatory term. I believe the reference is supposed to be about a saltine cracker being white in color.

the way i heard, it has a double meaning: the other being a short version of "Whip-cracker". Cracker probably meant the color of the skin, and rich white people overhtought the problem and came up with whip-cracker.
