With the plethora of adjectives and synonyms in the english language, I'm sure it's easy to find other ways of saying "idiot" instead of something morally degrading, such as fag or n*****. It's utterly ridiculous to say that it's okay to call someone a n***** because they're new.

But if you lift the laws and regulations, sure, in the beginning everyone will do whatever the law prohibited, but after awhile it will fade away and people will realize how horrible it is themselves, and the push for a voluntary choice to ban it.

          my 2 cents on racism.
holy shit debater kid. do you not realise that nobody actually quotes zizek? he's only used for debating purposes.

now i'll give you the rundown on zizek: he's some crazy serb and a university over in eastern europe who gets paid money to write whatever the fuck he wants. so that's just what he does, in copious amounts. he writes and writes and writes and most of it is stupid. a lot of his philosophies parallel those of another nutcase, lacan, but being the hypocritcal ass that zizek is, he contradicts himself and lacan on multiple occasions. he's probably the most useless person ever.

i, for one, have been victim to this little kid's macros of 'get aids and die n*****' and 'get SARS c****.' racism is not needed and TW and is justifiably a bannable offense. if you want to be racist go talk to your 'friends' on AIM or MSN and don't litter our public arenas with idiocy.

chats are another thing though. first of all (demonic already explained) they can't be monitored. second of all, i see no reason why the little racist kids can't have a little racist chat so they can come home and be racist till their little hearts are content. but keep that shit out of where i and the rest of the tw community can see it.

I was simply seeking a better understanding. I don't understand why you would feel so strongly that you would feel obligated to call it stupid bullshit.
Additionally, if you followed your own logic, wouldn't you ignore threads like this and not comment? Toggle on and off threads that brothered you so much?

Just because it's a game doesn't mean that we can't be serious about it. Like Ephemeral said, if you don't like people being serious about it then go ahead and ignore it. I don't see how you can be glib about ignoring racism yet not about this.

Of course, you're probably just following the old standard of telling someone to stop being so serious when you realize you have nothing else to answer them when you know they're right.

I read this as, "oh shit, I ran my mouth without thinking and came up looking stupid. I better change the subject". The only thing that surprizes me is that you would sink to the "Get a life" crap.

Next time you might want to try growing some balls and simply admit you were wrong.

Checkers is a game This is a community. You dont debate racism in checkers. I might go as far to say that this game is, for some people, more of a social interaction (i havent actually played TW in 3 months, go figure).

Oh, and sufficient/facetious, give me one philosophy that has worked in every instance, ever. And the holocaust isnt a law, it was an event. Zizek writes specifically towards certain events, this certain philosophy was tooled toward laws/regulations.

Genocidal, not all of his stuff is cracked up BS.

oh, and on the racism thing, a quick note i found, from, guess who:

"Martin Heidegger said that philosophy doesn't make things easier, it makes them harder and more complicated. What they can learn is the ambiguity of so many situations, in the sense that whenever we are presented by the big media with a simple opposition, like multictural tolerance vs. ethnic fundamentalism, that the opposition is never so clear cut. The idea is that things are always more complex. For example, multiculturalist tolerance, or at least a certain type of it, generates in itself or involves a much deeper racism. As a rule, this type of tolerance relies on the distinction between us, multiculturalists, and intolerant ethnic others, with the paradoxical result that anti-racism itself is used to dismiss in a racist way the other as a racist. Not to mention the fact that this kind of "tolerance" is as a rule patronizing: its respect for the other cannot but remind us of the respect for naive children's beliefs: we leave them in their blessed ignorance not to hurt them."
