What's your favorite key prefs?

I use the numberpad for the right hand
so i get all the unused keys for everything thing else like thors etc.

L. = left
R. = right

Ctrl: shoot : L.pinky
L.Shift: thrust : L.ring
Caps: rocket: L.middle
Tab: bomb: L.middle
Space: repel: Thumb

The rest are defaults

Where is the key for you to make ` for me it's shift plus the key next to backspace (on the left side) and that's not a very good place for it imo

The ` key on English (and I assume US keyboards) is to the left of 1.
Btw Jackie, defaults aren't for newbs.. they made those default keys for a reason and that's because they are the easiest to learn with.

The default keys are horrible for TrenchWars. You can't really use a rocket+shoot a jav bomb, or attach without moving your entire hand off the keyboard. Like I said, if you got used to it, great. But there are a lot more efficient key setups that you could use but you'll never want to relearn the buttons now. There are really (IMO) a few keys that need to be changed.

Oh, and I remember Mythrandir said, a long time ago, that he uses the keypad to move (2 4 8 6). I'm sure that works for him, but for anyone that has played with the arrow keys for more than a month is never going to get used to that.

He uses numpad 0 to move backwards... one finger on each direction. I can't use numpad that way though, I get the beeps. Otherwise I'd steer that way too. (Like mythrandir)

While I'm at it, there are plenty of reasons WHY you should go from default settings to a custom one. Try what Stabwound said (doing alot of things like burst, bullet, laying portal at once + steering to avoid bullet/bomb) and you might be able to make it default settings, but there are custom settings which are much more efficent, (would let you do the same things with less effort).

Second reason is that default settings doesn't make your hand lie in a relaxed position, it's a forced one, and if you play for a long time (or just very often) it's not good for your muscles in the hand.
When I made my custom keydefinition I laid my hand on the keyboard, as relaxed as possible and noted where the fingers were. To get a relaxed hand position and efficent keysettings.

I never thought I'd change keydefinitions until I saw a thread about it a while ago, I didn't understand why you'd ever want to do it. But now I'm glad I did it, and I'm not looking back! I can honestly say it has improved my play, in a lot of areas.

The only drawback with this is that you need either to learn to use message key, or avoid beginning a line with a button set for a specific action. (You can tick the thing "require msg key" in keyboard defs area for instance).

Right. Easiest to learn = for new people. Usually new people are lovingly refered to as noobs/newbs, or my favorite nooblets.

BUt just as several of my esteemed TW associates have stated the default keys might be best for other SS zones like chaos.

The default key set is not the friendliest for TW if you are playing ships such as shark, terr, and jav. Wb and spider do not really matter since all you are doing is shooting bullets, thrusting, and attaching.

If you are convinced I am wrong we can agree to disagree.

Well said. To me it's like when you are a baby you can't think of any other way than craping in your pants all the time. Why would you wanna go through the hasle of trying to control your bowels? Seems like too much trouble and effort. Besides when you're young the automatically thow a diaper on you b/c that's the way it suppose to be.

May I submit to you there might be a better way of doing things?

O I use that one for warp. it makes the 1/2 and the law thingy for me. § and ½ I have attach on the right side of left shift ( where <> is). That's why I can't do arrows without alt-tabbing.
