So you’ve read the guide, you’ve played in a few matches in ?go base and you want to get involved in TWD and TWL. Well to do that you’ve got to join a squad and here’s my lowdown of the current squads around:
The Big Guns
Perhaps the biggest rivalry in the history of TWL (there’s not a lot of competition) alongside Siege – Final, Pallies Vs Disoblige is the most eagerly anticipated match of the season. Although born from the fact they were the two best squads at the time, Pallies Vs Diso has now gone on to represent America (Pallies) Vs Europe (Diso). These two squads usually have the luxury of choosing their recruits from any of the feeder squads below them in the social hierarchy, the pretenders to the crown. However last season was a virtual non-event for Pallies as their best players never showed up for the matches leaving Diso an easy path to the TWL final.
The Young Pretenders
Last seasons champions, Spastic, are certainly the forerunners for this category, however with the lure of Pallies and Diso greater for people looking for a squad, Spastic don’t quite make it into the top spot. They certainly have the skill to win matches, but have come under a lot of criticism for their boring style of play, using the cram strategy to shut people out of the base. Whiterabbits are the pub newbies who proved everyone wrong. Have undergone a lot of line up changes due to retirements and everyone leaving to join Pallies, whiterabbits are serious title contenders. Also with the break up of Camisade wr gained a lot of decent spiders. These squads tend to steal people from ‘the dark horses’ rather than take a risk on unknown players.
The Dark Horses
Mambo and RB are the two squads that you immediately think of for this category. Mambo had a relatively good last season in TWL, but you feel they could of achieved a lot better than they did. Rejected Basers are the squad that most newbies will join. Their policy of recruiting unknown people and training them up to a good standard has worked well, with people such as Fit Of Rage (now with wr) and Vatican Assassin coming of age. However RB have put in some very good results recently, so will they sellout and stop recruiting unknowns in an attempt to win TWL, or will they stay faithful?
The Unknown Quantities
Provoke have a very good lineup, but are selective about their recruiting and are relatively untested in competitive matches. The same is true of Pirates, so we will see how well they perform in the upcoming TWL season.
