  • My computer will not read CDs

Okay, I only just encountered this problem.

When I try putting in a CD of any type (Audio, Game) the light on the drive flashes to show that its loading and then it just stops. Nothing happens. So I go into My Computer to find the disc. The CD drive just says that It has no space free and none is being used up, I can go 'into' the cd drive as if i was going to explore a disc but there is nothing in there.

This problem came up when I tried putting in an audio disc, I then tried with 2 other audio discs and 2 game discs, but to no avail.

    Please help if you can.

    Thanks.

Try putting it in the CD-Rom Drive instead of the floppy drive.

Yeah, that happens to me a lot as well so I just reboot most of the time. Make sure that you wait until you have logged into your system before putting that CD in. Also, most older audio CDs seemed to do that as well. I tried some old CDs such as Tears for Fears and the same thing occured. Afterward, I dumped some Finger 11 CD in there and it magically worked. ???

That happened to me, You need to uninstall and reinstall your drive though your system settings.

control panel> system> click the 'hardware' tab> device manager

click DVD/CD Rom drives and uninstall the faulty one from there, then restart and do the same again but install it.

            It worked for me.

Nah, you shouldnt. Your CD-Drives usually are OEM versions (raw, unboxed) if you bought it ready built.

If you bought your drive separate or asked for a boxed version put into your machine then it should come with some software.

So it should stay detected by your machine unless you disconnect it.

I know, I know this isn't helpful, but I feal like I can't resist. Try putting in one disk a a time.

Got a similar issue with my AOpen 12x10x40 DVD/ROM.
Some times it responds to input, most of the time it doesn't.
I tried changing master/slave settings, new flatcables nothing helped.
I installed the DVD/ROM into my secundairy system and seen as the same problem occured there, I concluded the damn thing is just messed up.
                            Haven't replaced it yet though.

I went to the device manager, right clicked on the drive, clicked uninstall, restarted the pc...and it was still there. I uninstalled it twice.
