  • Help Me.....i'm Meelllltttiinng!

I have been lagging very bad with s2c and c2s of like 20% for past 4 days. But I don't have anything running while I'm trying to play subspace. I thought at first it was viruses, I found like 5 bullshit viruses and got rid of them and they weren't the problem. I also have good firewall and antivirus software (Norton) so I'm sure it is not me now. I even downloaded software to check for hidden processes in background and there are none.

So I'm pretty sure it has something to do between me and tw's servers. I will call my cable company soon, but I doubt it their fault. I have 'pinged' various places in cybernet and I get most lag from ss://server.trenchwars.org. I live in Brooklyn NY, is there something wrong on your end, hopefully someone who works where the serveres are can check, some other people I know have been having bad lag too recently, but not as bad as me. Any suggestions or updates? please help.

I've have had similar problems resently so it could just be a server problem. My best advice would be to try SpyBot just to be sure you don't have any spyware. (Update it too)

    Edit:SpyBot S&D is spyware free.

I've tried spybot before. You should get rid of it Vitron, it is actually spyware in disguise. It had like 3 spy/ad-wares attached to it.

What operating system (version) are you using? I have a hunch that earlier versions of Windows act quirky over running for a long period of time. I run Windows ME, and have noticed if I run it over 3-4 days I sort to get weird connection performance problems while on TW. Sometimes, things got better by simply rebooting.

For example, yesterday (Sunday)... I was online around 4pm PST, and I got disconnected 3 times in a row, each time I was on for like 20mins and then it dced. Then I reboot my machine and viola it went a way. Before this, I was doing a daily message forum / web browsing routine... perhaps adware crap has something to do with this.

I have Cable Internet (Shaw Cable) as well and I live near Vancouver BC Canada. Its usually quite stable most of the time. But SS being a realtime intensive internet program, any little disruption can have big effects while online.

Another thing I do, is make sure I don't have many background running programs/applications while playing TW. Since some of these other programs might have bugs or get unstable over running for long periods of times. Also they might be schedule based (doing major HD accesses). To let the CPU only concentrate on fewer tasks is a better thing.

But yesterday many people were lagging/eating, it was just plain silly. I think Sunday is the most busy day of the week not just on TW Server, but the whole internet.

I run XP Wise, and I try rebooting all the time too. I also already checked and found and deleted like 5 spy/ad-ware programs, and I also tried ending every other process too. I even got this program called Wintasks 4 Pro (which is a pretty good program I recommend it to keep track of all processes and its' speedupmypc program companion) to look for any hidden process, again none found. I used to work as a computer operator fixing pc problems on computers at school so I'm pretty sure there is no problem at my end.

Therefore I'm sure it is problem on tw's servers end.....I hope. Nothing has changed on my comp since 5 days ago except with some good fixes. Thanx for trying to help though.

PS I plan to donate $50 soon to tw donation, but if someone gives me advice that I haven't tried and it works I'll donate $100 instead. Lol, I'm so desperate without ss.

Do you have any friends who use the same isp? (If you don't go find some ) Install ss and see if the lag is the same, if so it's something with the isp. :/ Every once in a while my isp will... um.. spaz on me and I'll get super high lag, normaly goes away in a couple days.

Mabye use the ss ping and post it up here.

Thanx for advice Vitron, would answer some questions, it is just that everyone I know around here doesn't play ss and most of them don't even have a computer. I don't want to ask someone to install ss and type in all these commands to find their connection speed to ss.

Oh and after googling that spybot software again I can't find anything that says it is a virus program. There is a w32.spybot.worm but it is not the same thing. It is just that I remember downloading it like 6 months ago, ran it, it found some spyware in registry and i used it to get rid of them. But just a few days after that I found a small bunch of new processes running and googled them and they were spyware programs.

These executables come to mind but it was a while ago so I'm not sure:
                msbb.exe
                bundle.exe
                ...a few others

I've downloaded spybot and ran it again, found some more spyware stuff but nothing major. I will wait a week and if I see any new programs spawn on my computer, and I recognize their names, then I will be pretty sure they came from spybot and I'll let you know which processes they are wadi.

mm first do you play like events alot/often.. especially when the arena is big and it takes alot of KB..
b/c it happened to me and i had to delete some of the arenas that i didnt use... cuz they take alot of MB.. and they arent neceessary...

so try going to the continuum folder and delete some of those arenas you dont use or play in... it worked for me.. buh then again it could be a different problem

Lunch3, I don't think it is a TW server problem. Since you are say that nothing is wrong with your computer. There might be a problem with your ISP or even a particular problem with just your connection. My advice would be to call up your ISP and complain that there is a problem. Wait I forgot did you say only TW was lagging? Anyway it could be problem, if you have cable and such.

I called my cable company, they will be coming tomorrow because they confirmed I'm losing packets. Hopefully that is only problem....I hope.

I don't go to events often, also I tried reinstalling ss. Those are not the problem.

Basically only ss is lagging though. Although I am having troubles pinging www.nytimes.com and yahoo, they timeout, while a few other places have long round trip times of like 100ms for packets, and again while other p[laces like www.google.com are really fast like 20ms and aol's headquarter site or whatever u call it is at 10ms. But I am able to surf the net well enuf as usual.

SS seems to lag more when I enter bd and ?go base games. So at this point I think it is problem with my outward cable stream from my comp and also a compounded problem with the bots because they constantly request information from me, I'm guessing but maybe they aren't coded to do that in that way, to calculate my mvp rating with all these time races, but it seemed to lag more also on old twd bots with 30min bd, all such problems occurred right after bots were finally working after lagging in and out like 5 days ago. Hopefully cable problem is the only problem.

PS Still don't know if Spybot delivers spy/ad-ware programs itself on to your computer, but it also doesn't really delete the virus, it just 'quarantines' them by deleting their registration entries so that the virus is effectively dead in water but still there.

I bet that it is the problem with the cable ISP. You owe TW 100 bucks if I'm correct

Regarding the bots, the bots don't request info from you. They get all that information from the server just as any other continuum client does.
