  • Task Manager

Hmmm I have Windows 2k and when I go into task manager from ctrl+alt+delete it stays up for about a second and goes away. It USED to stay up, but now it won't, what's going on?

Sounds like a virus. Do a complete scan with Spybot then run a virus scan, free one below:

Paul, Try going to www.lavasoftusa.com and download adaware 6.0
Or Search for "Adaware" in google, click on the second link. it will direct you to the website. from there, click on Download from www.Downloads.com, then install adaware 6.0 then run the system scan.
        - This Program gets rid of any Spyware in your Computer.
-If this does not solve your problem, Try the following:
-Install an anti-virus program (Norton... or Mcaffee)
-If you already have an Anti-virus, be sure it is up to date
        - and be sure that you have all of the lates updates.
-If None of the above solves your problem, you have softwarew corruption, and the best way to fix that is to Reformat your hardrive... if you need help doing this, feel free to PM me.

krazie, it isn't spyware that causes this, its obviously a virus that doesnt want to be caught running in the processes section.

from my experience, spyware doesnt run like that :/ unless its with a program you have which runs with it.

Actually, this has been going on for quite some time and after the first time this has happened there have been several occasions where I have done spyware and virus scans with no avail. Are you sure it couldn't possibly be something else?

If I was you, I would try reinstalling your OS if possible. Every time I've had problems like that in which I couldn't solve, reinstalling the operating system seemed to fix them. I'm not sure how Windows 2000 works, but if it's anything like 98 or XP you should be able to reinstall just the OS without having to format the entire hard drive.

                            Might be this:

                            http://www.computing.net/security/ww...orum/5857.html

                            or this:

                            http://forums.devshed.com/archive/t-75471

                            or even this:

                            http://groups.google.com/groups?thre...tngp13.phx.gbl

If you do have a virus, it might be disabling you AV checker. IMO, virus checkers are a pile of crap anyway. I've had several viruses (thanks to the RPC exploit) which norton, sophos and grisoft all failed to detect.
