  • UK Broadband - who?

I'm considering throwing away my laggy old modem and embracing the high tech world of "a decent connection".

Can anyone recommend a good UK broadband provider - not too pricey, fast, reliable etc., or tell me of anyone I should avoid. I use Tiscali dialup, but they've been a bit arsey in the past so I'm not too keen to get broadband from them.

    Thanks.

Plusnet are incredibly cheap and efficient. it's 32.99 per month for their 1mb/s broadband- this is an incredibly cheap price for such a speed.

If you just want standard 512k/s, then that will cost £24.99 per month, But why get standard when you can have double that for just 5 pounds more than what Freeserve and BT charge for their standard 512k?

Modem is 60 quid I think.

by far THE BEST in the UK, undisputed for all-round services.

Cheers Mr P., I will check them out. One other thing, is it fairly easy to set up 2/3 computers on one account? Or do I need extra equipment like a router???

        No probs mate,

You will need to network them, I'm not an expert in networking as I only do GCSE level ICT at school but you need an Ethernet cable, 2 hubs and a router- you will recieve a router when you get your broadband.

For Networking I reccomend you get at least a 1mb service as my friend networked 2 512k comps together and it lagged his online games.

Unfortunately 512k and 1mb both have the same Upload speeds (256k) so it may screw up your C2S if you are playing games on more than one computer.

I'd still say that plusnet is by far the best in the UK

I doubt that he would have anyway, just consult a technician or something,

Get cable broadband if your area has a provider.
I personally use Telewest Blueyonder (£25 a month, more if you don't get the TV with it) and it is very reliable with good download speeds. It doesn't (or didn't when I first got it) come with any additional crap, like BT Yahoos customized browser etc, and is good for sharing the connection.

Yeah and guess what, some people can't afford more than one computer, I would know how to if I had two computers.

Plus.Net owns all the ISPs you have listed here :P
