First Format it...and reinstall the windows of your choice
Then install some good Antivirus Software (Norton, Panda (free!), Kaspersky,...)
Then download some software to keep your computer spyware-free.
I suggest you download Spybot Search & Destroy & Ad-aware. They should do the job.
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal...

when you format, make a partition so that you can store all important files (music, pictures) without having to remove them everytime you format...

also grab a program called wintasks (pro), about half the processes running on XP are usless!

[Edit]: Also if you want your computer to run fast, DO NOT install norton. Grab a firewall www.sygate.com and some anti-spyware, you don't need antivirus.. viruses now days wont get caught and AV SERIOUSLY slows down your computer.

Norton AV will seriously slow your comp, have you guys tried without AV installed at all?...

Im not using winxp and never will, perhaps it handles the program better.. oh well

Norton slowed me down when I was trying to multitask, and it would scan new files.
