hey, i just spent the past 4 hours tracking down some viruses and parasites on my friends computer, and I just got it back up and running. But now, it won't let me go to a webpage without putting the http:// infront of the address. Anyone help me and him please?

Example: www.trenchwars.org in the address bar won't work. I have to type http://www.trenchwars.org for it to work.

He uses Windows XP, Internet Explorer 6. He's got 70+ GB's left on his hard drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

hmmm, try downgrading it, then upgrading it.

Then type: redigit

Nope, actually it was because of a spyware known as Freednshost.info or something like that. We fixed it though. It kept on making his default homepage that, so when we clicked on Default, it'd go to FreednsHost.info. We deleted all traces of the spyware and everything; now it works perfectly. He found out where he got all of this, and it was from a russian website with a .ru at the end. Basically you're asking for a trojan when you go there. He knew nothing about that kind of stuff. Anyways; thanks for all your support! We fixed it all =D

I have a similar problem to.

I got a trojan hors from a site (NOT A PORNSITE ) now my homepage is ALWAYS about:blank. And it doesn't go away.... WITH NOTHING.

I installed 'ad aware 6.0' I did the upgrades, but nothing worked, please help me now!!

Tools --> Internet Options --> change the name of the homepage, and click Apply !

hehe i had the same problem but i reinstalled my whole comp..it took like 4 hours but it was okay after

I know this is not quite a good solution, but you can also consider downloading Mozilla Firefox. All those dumb toolbars and "would you like to run sex_dialup.exe?" dialogs are going-going-gone with Firefox. Oh, and it blocks popups and some banners (no plugin needed, what a deal!)

Why yes, in a Mozilla zealot. I hate IE more and more everyday
