  • Laptop crashes

I hope someone can help me with this.

My laptop (Advent 7012, XP) keeps crashing and it seems to only happen when continuum is running. I thought it was a hardware problem, like overheating, as when it crashes it's like a total power failure. There is no warning or error messages, just a black screen and I have to reboot. But it works fine the rest of the time. I can surf the web for hours no problems, then I log on to tw and after 3-4 minutes I get a black screen and no power.

I've tried turning off my firewall, antivirus and other resident programs, and I've removed and reinstalled continuum (0.39) with default settings and default graphics. It still crashes though.

I'm a bit short on technical details, but any help would be much appreciated.

Is there a log file somewhere that might record the reason for the crash?

Try playing some other game, browsing the web doesn't make the graphics card/processor work that very much. Or you could put on some kind of a CPU tester or graphics card tester that really squeezes all the juices out of your hardware to see if it's an overheating problem.

I've played Continuum on this computer for the last year and a half or so without any problem. It's only this last week that it's started crashing.

Usually with time computers (especially laptops) get very dusty and shit which reduces the air flow and results in easier over-heatings. Vacuum the shizzle?

That seems to have worked. Thanks.

I'm surprised continuum causes that much extra heat. It's not that processor intensive is it?
