dvd player will not load

Hi,
i purchased a sony dvdrom, it will load
up to the mowie screen but when i try
to play the movie i get error-PL 4013,
decoder not working or not installed,
i contacted the vendor, he said it was sold as is no software.
Will i have to purchase player software,

Windows Media Player Classic It's free and I think it will do DVDs for you too, as well as a butt-load of other formats.
