i got this prog with the hd, max blaster 3, it makes the new partitions on the drive. it tells me that one of the requirements is win xp service pack 1.

anyway, i dont think its my bios. I have a pretty new motherboard: Epox from NVIDIA, with nforce2 chipset.

i still dont know how to fix it. im getting tempted to give up on those 23gigs!

You want WinXP service pack 2 anyway, splurge on the educational license of XP. Hell, go with home if you have to.

                That's just not true.
Those games will run after installing SP2. The "problem" is the built in firewall, which in most cases simply denies internet access to the program until you "green list" it. Some games use data pages that the firewall blocks automatically, but work-arounds are available for that as well. It's just a matter of configuring your system correctly.

SP2 increases the security of the system significantly. In some cases this means you have to manually configure settings you didn't have to worry about before. It's a simple trade off: security vs. usability.

                There's no place like 127.0.0.1

                  Ontopic:

The problem is not the BIOS, but indeed the lack of SP1's added support for large HD's. Windows XP without SP1 is limited to a 137.4 GB partition size.

There's an article about this issue in the MS knowledge base if you want additional information.

They didn't lie, because the programs just don't run by default.
However, they neglected to mention that you can get those same programs running again, if you spend some time in the brand spanking new Security Center

there will come about patches for the games but still microsoft seems always to fuck up something.

they can't even make a decent & safe IE like netscape or firefox.
