What happen is you highlight the text in the box, while holding onto the mouse click, and drag the highlight down to the end of the box. Can it scroll then?

That's one of the reasons why I prefer JSP over ASP and PHP, because it's based on Java, which in turn is one of the strongest OO-languages out there.

As for MySQL, as a database it leaves ALOT to be desired. Only since version 4.1 (which is still a gamma/development release) does mysql offer support for subqueries, which is one of the most basic sql operations. It lacks a proper local GUI. I mean myPhpAdmin works fine up to a point, but if you really want to get down and dirty with the server itself, you're still condemned to use a commandline interface. The command center gui or any of the 3rd party gui's just don't cut it. Constraints can be implemented, but only if you use InnoDB type tables etc. etc. MySQL is a great open-source initiative, and it works fine as a back-end for small and medium sized websites, but as a database server it doesn't come close to rivaling Oracle for instance. Not a very realistic or fair comparison to make, I know, but if you look at it from a purely technological perspective MySQL isn't really all that "good".

About the whole Microsoft sucks fad:

      - Their producs are quite simply among the best out there. Ofcourse, Microsoft has neglected to pay attention to alot of security issues in the past, which has come back to bite them squarly in the ass. On the other hand, microsoft products are a shining example of how man-machine interaction should be implemented, which is reflected buy their pupolarity among a wide variety of different countries/cultures around the entire world.

      - The whole monopoly arguement you can throw out the window (no pun intended) right now. Nobody's twisting your arm to use MS' products, there are plenty alternatives out there, be it open-source or otherwise. Microsoft attained its current dominant position, because of the consumer buying their products.
Oh well I'm still quite a newbie at this front. I'm sure that I would too use java if I had the time to learn. But at the moment I find Php to be satisficing for a person like me. And I think I've heard about global variables, not sure tho.

As for the monopoly thing, well I'm a gamer. There aren't that many games to linux these days. I'm sure there are some playable games, yet new games seem to only be released for windows. And as I told yo uabout the most bugs and most viruses, most people are sitting ducks when using windows. IMO, windows is a big security problem for most people. Though it is very user friendly, but I can't say that about Linux, not for a starter or avarage user.

Although I've never brought any microsoft products, except freelancer, that by the way is a good game.

I've heard too about Oracle that it is suppose to be a good database. I'm sure what you said is true about mySQL. Accually it the only database I've tried out to work with when making websites.
      Endless space, endless exploration.

Yes, if I click and drag down the box highlighting text it scrolls. But following that once the text is highlighted I cannot use the scroll button.

I don't really get why so many people switch to different browsers when there really aren't that many problems with I.E.

It's the latest fad. Didn't you know?
All things Microsoft suck and should be boycotted, all things open-source are, by definition, infinitely better.

I just prefer the layout and interface of Firefox over anything else. It comes stock with tabbed browsing, and the default skin is a lot better than IE's. Combine that with the handy extensions you can install, and it's just a better browser.
