MSN messenger not working

    MSN messenger not working

    Okay, I need your help.

    Recently, my crappy IE got some damn spyware thingy... Now I cant access the following things:
    • MSN Messenger
    • Gmail
    • Hotmail
    • and my homepage keeps messing up


    My friend told me to download mozilla firefox, which I will do today.. But even if it will let me access hotmail and gmail, my MSN messenger will still be screwy.

    How can I fix my IE? And how can I access MSN messenger?

    You might want to try AdAware, Spysearch or some other kind of software that detects/removes spyware.

        Check out Trillian. It's a multi-client chat program that you can use with AIM, MSN, ICQ, IRC and Yahoo Messenger.

              Try downloading CWShredder and HijackThis from http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

              CWShredder kills the 'Cool.Search' worm that gets into IE and does a lot of nasty things. HijackThis shows you every link that your browser is set to go to in certain cases. Your homepage, search page and etc. The worm could be in there. If all else fails, download AVG since it's free and run a scan -- It'll hopefully find and destroy it. http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/

              Or just look on Suprnova.org and download Norton AntiVirus 2005 or Internet Security 2005 with Bittorrent.

                  does anything look out of place?

                  I narrowed the file down and I found the worm or whatever, it was called Neobanner or neobar

                  I deleted it.. But it came back

                  I found the .dll it was using.. I deleted it... But neobar keeps coming back..

                    ahh and another thing.

                    In my c drive, theres a document called inst_debug, its 30KB large.. and when I try to delete or shread it, it keeps reaappearing. i think that also has something to do with it.

                      k this is getting out of control.

                      Whenever I delete it, I get this folder created on the desktop called "backups"

                      In it is a 111 byte file called backup-20040930-203746-390

                      wth is up with this?

                        Run hijackthis with nothing else running and put a tick by those I have made bold and click "Fix selected" (or something along those lines)

                        The ones I have underlined are suspicious but I would leave them for now cause I can't find any info on them (Not including the links at the bottom which were not underlined by me).

                        Would you be able to find the c???pj.exe and the ntkb32.exe files and right click -> properties and tell me what it says?

                        Ok.

                        When you've done them, re-run hijackthis.

                          kk. However, I have an update: MSN messenger started to work again, gmail started to work again, and hotmail started to work again. Ahh, screw IE! Im sticking with Firefox <3333333333

                          Thanks guys and gals! I REALLY REALLY appreciate your help! Without the tw brains, I wouldnt have been able to fix this problem all by myself

                          Ahh Ewan, if you can check those wierd things still, Id like to get rid of the root of this problem. PS: Inst_debug is still there, and its 92KB now.. weird.
