  • Continuum suddenly doesn't load

I patched windows today, installed panda antivirus, tried to launch Continuum and nothing, absolutely nothing, the proces doesn't even appear on the list so it must shut so quickly it doesn't have time to make it on task manager. I manually uninstalled panda completely, removed all the patches, but alas it doesn't want to load. Hell I even booted up into 64bit which wouldn't be affected by installing an AV or patching normal XP at all, and low and behold, Continuum didn't load there at all. Basically a total wtf?

Oh yeah and here's some specs that won't help the matter at all but someone is going to blindly ask for them anyway like it makes a difference:

    amd 64 xp 3000+
    1 megasuperduperpixelatorygigabyte ram
    radeon X800XT graphics card
    160 gig maxtor hd
    sound shatterer 24 bit, prerecorded!
misc wires, and a furry doll...

Its not the antivirus program. Go to start->run and type dxdiag. In the first window, after its done running diagnostic tests, the version should be at least 9.0 or 9.0c for the latest version. Click the tabs at the top to make sure that there arent any directX problems. Other than that, I cant think of anything that would cause it to not start up.

      Mobile AMD Athlon XP 1500+
      2 RAM
      ATI RADEON IGP (aka POS)
      30 gig spinny-disk-thingy
Tape holding the lcd screen together, 2 power cables that have been resodered and insolated with lots of super glue, and one very large porn collect

I meant megapixel , nah shoot me I was in a rush.

Nothing wrong with directx, and I was bored so I killed all non-critical processes and stopped most of the services but it still wouldn't load.

Have you tried completly uninstalling and reinstalling continuum?

And is the 0.38 or 0.39pr1 that you're having the probs with?

Yes I have, and any version of continuum seems to die upon loading.

Try running scandisk. I would say defrag as well, but I kinda doubt that will fix any problems.

I managed to fix it, I couldn't be bothered waiting for a sensible reply here so I decided to download an illegal mirrior of SP2 seen as microsoft clowns won't let me uninstall it (it's not even on the installed programs list) and windows update thought it was installed. Then I just reinstalled it and stuff worked B)

Yah, replies can't exactly be "sensible" when you install service packs incorrectly and/or have corrupt files.

Neither was the case, I put it down to the new windows patches playing up, they sometimes mess things up as it's very easy for windows to moan complain and fail if windows update decides to install them in a slightly different order than expected for any reason.

Although as I've said before continuum dies on many things, for example I can't use my antivirus because it'll cause continuum to loop into loading until you rename the binary then it spews out an error, that is months old and the best answer I managed out of that is that everyone's antivirus software were at fault not continuum, yet every other program I can name works fine with panda. Oh well, I suppose in the coming years we'll see a new release of continuum out, I would hold my breath for it but I'd probably suffucate long before it arrives. ETA is 2 months after duke nukem forever...
