this may not be entirely related to continuum or subspace, but this is very useful and important, and im postive this thread WILL lead to at least a few people removing trojens off their computer

if you think one good virus scanner is enough, think again. i have 3 and each of them detected Trojens that the other 2 could not! after that i scanned in diagnostic mode and another one was found too! so look into getting Avast and 'e scan, and also remember to use safe mode/diagnosic boot too sometimes.

Search for Avast which is an excellent free scanner that has a boot scan, network sheild and other stuff. on their site your registar to get a 14 month key. but if you are satisified with your current scaner and dont want to get another full featured scanner, ignore the above and only do the below:

    ----

the following program is not a full featured scanner, does not install(only unzips a folder), does not reg in windows, and does not have tray icons or monitors, so it wont be a bother to try out even if you already have a full featured scanner:

(it has 116,000 definitions and finds stuff other scanners dont )

for Kaspersky e scan use the link below, but this is a self extracting zip that does not install, just unzips a folder. run msconfig and reboot in diagnostic mode, then go in the folder the self extracter created and run wmavscan.exe and cliock on the DRIVE box and press the Scan Clean button.

do not attempt to update this, you have to just delete the folder and redownload it every week. the download will always have the latest definition file.

its likely that it will find trojens that your other scanner doesnt, it did for me and other people i showed it too.

Here's another bit of info it seems most people don't know (although they should by now). Delete Kazaa, Bearshare, Bit Torrent, any peer to peer file sharing software. It's like leaving the front door of your house open, and when someone finally just WALKS in and does what they want you're surprised or mad at them, just close your door. I've had so many friends and friend's friends and relatives ask me to "fix" their computer, and everytime it's just loaded with malicious code, almost always due to a peer to peer file sharing program. <_<
(ZaBuZa)>sigh.. i been playing this game since i was 8... i am more mature then ull ever be...

Ok if you say so, i use three different scanners, each of which have detected trojens that the other 2 couldnt, and these trojens relay info to 3rd partys, but ok

I hardly P2P, what you said is good advice, i use DC ++ once in a while which has no spyware Plus Avast P2P shield covers it and like 10 other p2p programs

heres a trick to find songs withoput using P2P:

            In google type this:

            ?intitle:index.of? mp3 Artist Track

Replace artist and track with what you want, this will give only file results and filter everything else out. youll only get indexes

You're just slowing down your computer and wasting time having more then one scanner active. Your best bet would be to find one good virus scanner like Norton, AVG, House call and keep it on auto update. Use spybot and Adaware twice a week or so (adaware also has a feature called adwatch) and keep a software firewall (something like zonealarm or better) and or a hardware fire wall on a router running. I don't see how torrent or Kazaa would cause people to get spyware or viruses, given that they're not downloading software or previously installed an infected version of the P2P program.

Limewire is the best for getting mp3s right now.

http://azureus.sourceforge.net/ Torrent client if you need a better or "ad/spy" ware free one.

K-Lite isn't easy to find out on the net these days but Suprnova, now no longer indexing torrent files is testing a new kind of P2P application called eXeem. It's similar to most p2p programs, you search, download ect.. it's new and in beta and isn't very fast right now but it's worth a try. eXeem.com

Maybe a mod should move this to faq/help?

No Kolar, i realize that. i only have one scanner active, the other one 's monitors are disabled, and the third one doesnt have any unless you buy the upgraded version. if you do what i say in the first post, you may find virri your others does not detect, i did, and so did others i showed it too.

my 3 are AVG (Disabled monitors) Avast (the one that is allowed to monitor) and e scan. Avast is better than AVG and has found 5 or 6 that Avg couldnt find. e Scan found ones that avast couldnt find

I know that spyware often takes multiple scanners, but not sure about viruses.

Shareaza is spyware-free, which of course doesn't mean that stuff on the networks is the same way. To be safe, download only stuff which cannot contain viruses or malicious software :P

                    yep, afraid it does.

as for spyware: Adaware, Spybot, Spyware Blaster (is a small program, an immunizer only that blocks over 3000 objects from ever touching you again), Hijack This (Must know what to remove and what to leave)

When you delete your temporary internet files, Index.dat is uneffected. incontains records of everywhere you been and files you opened and such. it cannot be deleted either. who knows what microsoft's motive for this is. there are cleaning programs that erase the data inside index.dat that takes effect on reboot. of these, Super Cleaner is the best one. it also cleans out a ton of junk files that other cleaners miss and has every cleaning feature you can think of, even a place to add custom folders to wipe. there is an option to write random data over the file so it can never be recovered.

there are programs that do file wiping so that deleted files can never be recovered and there are also programs that wipe an entire drive, but someone needs to make a program that does this to all the free space on your drive. that way, someone can wipe everything that was deleted BEFORE they got a program that securely deletes files. i dont know why anyone hasnt thought of making this.
