How do I get winamp to play the music files as their file name is called rather than what their name is in (right click) Properties -> Summary?

At the bottom of the playlist editor window go to Misc > Sort.

Some options will pop-up here and should help.

I'm using Winamp 5, so here goes for that:

        Press CTRL+P
General Preferences -> Titles -> Advanced Title Formatting
Enter in the empty space: %filename%

i tried that nockm, but it gives me the exact location of the file (e.g. C:\documents & settings\music\etc) instead of just the title

i also tried what you suggested, tahkis. it works, but i dont want to have to do that to every file i add. is tere a way to remove those tags from every file?

peanuts: they just rearrange the files already added (unless i'm looking in the wrong place or doing soemthing wrong?

          thank for the suggestions though

Nup, you can't remove tags en masse. Just make a habit of removing them after every download you make so you don't think of it as a big task when you have to do them all later.

I always try to do it after download but then I "forget" it and have to remove 200 tags same time. Urrrrrrrrrrrgh.

arghh.. i have enough trouble renaming every file i download to make it 'Artist - Title'. removing all those tags would most definately drive me insane. i think i'll just have to live with it.

                thanks.

winamp really should have an option to just use file names.

Actually there is a very easy way to remove all the ID2/3 tags, but really, it's a lot better to have them.

Use Tag & Rename- it's an awesome program that lets you tag/untag/rename mp3s quickly. I use it and it's great.

Tag & Rename - software to edit music files tag, it supports mp3 (all ID3v2 tag versions), wma, ogg, mp4 (m4a, m4p), flac, ape. You can organize tags using freedb or discogs, rename files, etc.

I'm not going to explain it though. It's pretty easy to figure out yourself.

                      I can remove/edit batch ID3 tags easily.

Yes. The tag holds lots of shit in there.

When you name files as Band - Album - Track# - Song, you really don't need any tags.

If you have a portable mp3 player, such as an iPod, id3 tags are almost essential.
