I get that when i open Steam..
I cant Ctrl Alt Del and close it because my Task manager closes automatically .. and I ran Adaware and everything.. I cant get rid of the virus doing that.

I also reinstalled Steam.

Help.. I've done everything i could think of :turned:

I get that with Outlook express sometimes... I use task manager to close it, but failing that a reset usually helps.
Although I assume you've already tryed resetting...
You sure its a virus, not just a bug?

sometimes this can happen to programs when the PC is running loads of programs at once, and as half life2 is a big game, this might be why..

what speed is your PC? and how busy is it when you try to load the game?
first just try it with nothing else running. if that doesnt work, try uninstalling everything to do with HL2 (puting any needed saved games etc onto CD first) then re-install and try loading steam with nothing running.

if it still doesnt work, im guessing its either a cracked version of HL2 or you have a virus.

Be patient oh Ice Storm, double click it ONCE and leave it to open it can be a little slow some times but when you click it again to try again you fuck it up

I've done that.. well tryed. But it comes up with an error and closes after a bit.

Yea i had the whole half life package with cs.. but only used cs

now i have h2 and source
but only play cs

Im going to make sure cs is only on the computer. I did already but ill uninstall steam again so it is for sure.,,

i am probably wrong here, but i thought steam only worked with broadband.. thought this wouldnt explain why it says you already have a stream open.

just so i know.. you bought this copy right? not downloaded? as that is the only other thing i can think is going wrong.

yea I tryed what u said

it said updating steam something.. and got to 100 and disappeared

then i opened it and it minimized and i couldnt see it then came up as an error

so i restarted and double clicked it and left it alone
and it came up as an error and closed it.. wtf

im downloading all the adaware shit i can think of

well as steam is almost constantly downloading patches and updating itself against hackers, the problem could be with your internet connection..

it could be that the updates cant keep up with the game so it will not open.. i dont know this for sure.. but i do know HL2 is a game obsessed with both security and upgrades.. my guess is, if it cannot get the latest upgrade or security patch, they game is probably programmed not to run..

but dont quote me on that one..

my only final piece of advice to you, is to look in the back of the manual.. and phone the helpline given (i haven't got the manual infront of me, but the game should have a helpline or atleast information email address). sorry i cant help more

A lot of people are confused with Steam. When they connect to Steam, they get an ad pop-up. When they connect to a gameserver they get an ad pop-up.

This is because Steam requests information through Internet Explorer such as news updates and MOTDs on servers. Now MOTDs support linking to a website, so this is conducted through old IE. If you have any underlying spyware on the back of IE, it will activate it and cause a pop-up to appear.

Just a note for anyone who experiences this problem, as countless people do.

I downloaded Anti Virus programs..
Ran Adaware, Spybot, avg or something, spysweeper.. defraggmented my computer

uninstalled steam
reinstalled steam
etc.

I did try double clicking it and letting it run but it came up as an error

ill continue this some other time
