File heaven? Must be great there.....gigabyte after gigabyte of memory goodness.

Anyway....if you have got system restore enabled you MIGHT be able to get them back by restoring your computer since they will be backed up (considering you have a save point at the time the file existed).
I am no longer living in false hopes. All is clear to me now.

By the way Acid your computer keeps deleted files for a while after you have deleted them. There are programs that let you recover recently deleted files. Just thought I'd let you know that.

When your computer deletes a file, all that is removed is the entry that is in the File Allocation Table (FAT) or NTFS (depending on your operating system). So in most cases the file is still on your harddrive, just the thing that points to it has been removed so the Operating System has no idea where your file is. SO what ends up happening is that the data is sooner or later overwritten by something else (such as you going on websites, or doing practically anything). Another problem is that your drive might be highly fragmented, so depending on the size of the file, it might be split up all over the fucking drive, thus making it neer impossible to recover the data without an expert. There are companies that will recover data for you (even in hard drives that fail). But such things cost a pretty penny, somewhere in the 50K to 100k range.

There are also a few programs floating around that will also recover deleted data. Windows keeps a log of the things it does, so the programs use this log to attempt to recover the file. Problem is that whichever file this is may have already been overwritten. Here is a link to download.com, look through the list and find something that you might think will work

Something free such as this might work

                (I haven't tested it)

So thats 320 miles from me, about a 5 hour drive. Pretty close to the same city name though. Santa Clarita is the valley that Six Flags Magic Mountain is in. http://www.sixflags.com/parks/magicmountain/index.asp
