  • keyboard buffer overflow problem?

I was wondering if anyone else had this problem while playing Continuum?

Ok, if you hold down SHIFT KEY (BOOST) and press atleast 2 ARROW KEYS alternate pressing them at a fast rate; the computer will BEEP BEEP and freeze the screen for afew seconds.

Why does this occur? Well the keyboard buffer is overflowed.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

I thought about buying a newer keyboard, but not sure if it would solve the problem.

Which keyboard to buy? Where they actually tell you that the keyboard buffer is much larger. I looked around and they don't list this in the specs.

    Thanks if anyone can help.

Well, it seems that whatever combination you're trying to use, the keyboard can't handle all of them at the same time. Basically, the only solution to this is getting another keyboard. All newer keyboards are quite limited on the amount of buttons that you can press at the same time. This is one of the reasons that I still use keyboards that were made in the '80's (+ they don't have any useless multimedia or windows keys either).

Yea older keyboards let you press more keys. I'm using this pretty new wireless keyboard though. And not having troubles. (Except I can't press Ctrl+Shift+A)

Well I use a old Compaq Deskpro to play SS, and have the compaq keyboard with it. Its fairly old, I thought the newer keyboards have large internal key buffers; perhaps this is not the case.

A friend of mine, Degussa.. told me keytronic is a great keyboard, might look into getting this.

Also I was thinking of doing something extreme, gutting a MicroSoft Sidewinder gamepad and making a custom SS game controller. But then I hear, SS doesn't work properly with the Sidewinder gamepad. Continuum can only handle standard gamepad/joysticks apparently.

But this key overflow beep/screen lock problem sometimes messes me up in dueling and want to resolve this problem in the near future.

How is Sidewinder "non standard"? Basically Continuum registers any joystick buttons from windows and it uses the the first x-axis and y-axis for steering.

Sidewinder is a digital gampad, therefore non-analog type.

What I meant for non-standard, was it has greater than 4 buttons, it has 10 buttons.

I heard from others that Continuum only works with regular joysticks/gamepads.

If "regular joystick/gamepad" means "4 buttons or less", then people have lied to you.

And you don't have to have any axis on it, you can very well map any button for steering.
